calling for help from someone who can modify maps
« on: July 15, 2021, 11:52:44 PM »

As currently non of the BAT regulars is a map modder person, I'd like to call out here for some assistance.

I have identified a small bug that would require some help. So if you're interested, drop me a line, thanks.

Can you guys take a look at the bugged lakes and rivers on maps where they're above sea level, but the water is still at sea level? I know it's a thing on the North Korea map with the rivers above the dams and the Kuril Islands and Attu map at the inland lakes.

Thanks for the help offer, guys!
I have already taken up my current problem with Bombsaway.  It's good to know there's help when we need some :)

Been a while since I did anything on a map and my map builder is long gone but as far as I know that is unfortunately a game limitation, Uzin (Ivan) has tried various things to get around it so he is the best qualified to confirm if what I said still holds true. ;)

Andy, just what are you up to now, you are as bad as me for tinkering, no worse. :D

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

It's just that whenever I open something and try to build a mission, I just see all kinds of bugs and most of the time feel like fixing it to a state where I am happy with it.... because I can.
When I fly over a map and discover pink splotches, I try to look for qualified help :)

Same as that is why I got rid of the install eventually, I was trying to flatten some airfields on the Big MidEast map and got fed up trying in the end. :(

That said it is easy enough to convert a existing install if someone needs help, however, no big projects. ;)

About rivers above sea level. The only way to have them not look like slashes through the terrain through which the sea-level water is seen far below is to give the river lines on map_c a lighter grey tone so that they take on the shallows texture. The shallows will be drawn at whatever is the terrain height.

The same applies for lakes, of course.

This technique will be better if there is no ocean on the map, because you can design a more suitable shallows texture for the rivers and lakes that won't make them look like the briny shores of a salty sea.  ;)

Hi folks
regarding WxTech's advice:
"....give the river lines on map_c a lighter grey tone so that they take on the shallows texture. The shallows will be drawn at whatever is the terrain height."

yes indeed. That's the only way I've found that works.
as an example: attached is shot from a map I'm working on. This is Lake Tana, elevation 1,788 metres !
Dont try putting a ship on it though - you'll get a rude shock!
yours
