M6A2 Prototype and Fictional Production Model
« on: July 16, 2021, 11:43:12 PM »

While the Aichi M6A1 (already in BAT) was fitted with an Aichi AE1P Atsuta 1,400hp engine, the M6A2, which only existed as a single pre-production prototype, was fitted with a Mitsubishi Kinsei MK8P Model 62 1,560hp engine driving a constant speed propeller. Unfortunately, there are no images or stats for this specific variant of the Seiran available online. We do, however, have images of the two different engines. The existing M6A1 model could be used with some nose adjustments, likely ending up with a stubbier nose similar to the E13A and E16A given the shorter and wider engine.

The Aichi Atsuta, hence the elongated and more aerodynamic nose of the Seiran compared to other Japanese aircraft.

The Mitsubishi Kinsei, seen in the "flatter" nose of the E13A and E16A, likely looking much the same in the M6A2.

The Aichi E16A for reference. Note the nose shape.

For a what-if production variant of the M6A2, there's a lot of room for interpretation. For better versatility, it would be armed with a pair of 30mm cannons (or 20mm as an alternate loadout). A fancy addition to what-if fleets of I-400 submarines.
