Yellow Wings galore!
18 skins for the Grumman F3F-2 of the complete VF-6 on board Enterprise in 1937

As some of you may know, I have been diving into pre-war US naval aviation a bit lately and I have revised my old Grumman barrel fighter template:
- better metallic effects
- corrected colors

Since the whole pre-war color coding is very neat and orderly (this is the Navy, not the Air Force after all) I came up with a method to paint a whole squadron of 18 aircraft in a very short time!

This is the first: Fighting Six operating from USS Enterprise as of 1937 until 1939.

v2:
corrected position of flight leader band and numbers
removed tail text to make skin fit all F2F and F3F versions

I'll post other squads in the future and I take requests. Which barrel fighter squad do you want to see?

Nice skins! But where is the F3F-2 for downloading?

It is available in BAT, but not stand alone on this site.

Thank you !
Work fine for my F3F-1 & F3F-2 !  :)
I haven't tested it but it should also work for the F2F-1!

Indeed, the template fits all.
The only distinctive marking is the plane type on the tail.
I could leave that out in the future... it's real but you may have a point there?

Then all these skins work for all F2F and F3F versions!

I posted an improved skinpack!
Please discard the old ones and replace them with these.

More recherche uncovered some small errors which were already present in the very basic blank skin I originally started from. One concerned the placement of the colored flight leader bands, which was too much to the front. Once you know it, it bugs you  :-|

I also decided to offer the skins with unmarked tails, no type definition text. This makes them more default for all three versions from F2F to F3F-2. In real life, these planes were always mixed with a squadron, it is known that VF7 operated some of their F2F as late as 1940. So all the barrel fighter squadrons will be some cross assembly with different selections over the years as new planes were added and older ones handed away.

It's safe to assume that a flight was always assembled with the same sub-type at least, given the performance differences. It would make no sense to fly wing in an F2F on an F3F-2, you'd only hold the leader down.

I feel comfortable now starting the automated squadron painting routine I have build myself. But I may end up doing some 3d fixing as well on these planes in BAT! The original mod had one or two shortcomings I'd like to correct.

Disappointed that this MOD is only included in B.A.T. and not standalone download.
Are you trying to force me to get B.A.T.? ;)

I said "....but not stand alone on this site."

Mind you, no links though.
Also, please note that the BAT version will get fixes in 3d and cockpit you will indeed not find stand alone.
