(POLL CANCELLED) - Aircraft list style, which style is best?
« on: September 13, 2021, 03:08:09 AM »

Hello everyone,

I am currently contemplating on how I should set the aircraft list for DOW.  This one is most unique project I work on.  I currently set this way:

Pre - War, WWI / Post War

For WWI section, there are Entente Power (Allied) and Central Power with all major nations involved in it.  So it means there will be cloned aircraft among nations that specifically use aircraft in WWI.

However, for post war section, I am wondering if I should use 'cloned' aircraft or not?  Should post war be minimum list, which mean there are no "NATION' for each aircraft.  Or should I add "NATION' name for each aircraft belong to them?  I will see what community think by polling.

UPDATE: Poll is cancelled, I have realized about overusing cloned aircraft. I am going back to the same way I did with WAW, sort aircraft by nation and the role, that's it.  I will use cloned aircraft for a few aircraft for specific situation.

I think you think so much about it unnecessarily. Every aviation enthusiast knows which country the type of aircraft is from and what it was used for. For me personally, the biggest problems with identification are only Japanese planes (apart from the basic types).
I consider the default division into countries to be sufficient.
But ... Thanks to mods, our game has become a multimedia encyclopedia of aviation. Thanks to this, everyone, even a layman, can slowly delve into the secrets of air wars. It is for them that such an extensive division and classification of aircraft will be useful.
I don't want to discourage you. I just expressed my opinion.

I see, that makes sense.  What I'll do for next version of TGA is to remove the cloned aircraft, but keep a few that needs it.  That way there won't be much cloned aircraft anymore. That way it will be much simpler and better.

Thank you for the feedback.

It will be like WAW aircraft list where there will be group of aircraft with their own specific roles.  This is why I need feedback.

I want to add one more thing.  The main reasons why I started with WAW then got inspired to work on TGA and DOW version is due to this reason:

I always get confused by type of aircraft.  So I decided to do this for myself, then I realized I could share that with the community as a gift.  Then there are another who are like me who like aircraft list sorted by nation, then role.

If I have not started this project, I would have missed out flying many aircraft due to not understanding their specific roles.  I do not have the time to pick up very thick books and look for the information on aircraft.  Like you said, IL-2 1946 have become a living encyclopedia for aircraft.  I believe that it would be useful to make it more user friendly for information accessible.

I hope this project will benefit anyone who needs or want an alternative aircraft list.  As always, feedback are appreciated.

cheers
