We've flown IL-2 for many years without connection problems either on  Hyperlobby or on IP addresses. OK up to the Bigfoot patch. Then we loaded patch 8, and the problem started. We can both fly with patch 8 alone on Hyperlobby or offline but connecting together now stops with 'timeout'  message. 'Try again' does not help either.
We've looked at conf.ini to see if there are any differences but none apart from speed. 1000000 and 10000. If we change them to match - no help!
Any suggestions even wacky ones for resolving this connection problem would be gratefully received.
This is a wonderful program and, with the very much faster load speed using patch 8, it is a credit to all involved in its development.

I'm not a UP user, but the latest update was recently released. Have you updated to 3.4 Cassie?
