Hello again Flying H, the more I look at it the less sure I am but try this as my line of thinking from
what I am seeing on the utility vehicle which I think is going to be as near as dam it the same as
the OXC.

The first red arrow is the rotation from the steering wheel transmitted into the connection at the base
that will rotate opposite in the direction of the Green arrow, not sure how exactly but you can see by
the shape of that unit connected to it.  The rotation noted at the Pink arrow will
be the same and should also be at the point where lower Green arrow is. I assume the arm has to
rock back and forward because of the shape and position of the curved bar where I put a Blue arrow,
the Red I am not sure if it turns or not or is just a way of connecting the whole mechanism to the hub.
The area I marked in Yellow is where I cannot tell if it is fixed or not, however, if it was fixed then how
does everything else move as that elbow pivot surely needs to?

In effect I think that elbowed arm at that Yellow marked point rocks back and forth as the steering
moves between its extremities of rotation but I cannot understand exactly how the steering box
transmits one rotation to the other as it would need at least three cog wheels or something in there.

Anyway, the more I look at it the more it fucks with my head, you know me I will cobble something together
that at least seems plausible. :D

I need to stop thinking and just build. ;)

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Now it makes sense, you saved my sanity yet again. :o

I can finally sleep tonight. :D

Thinking over, I am going to do some drinking, I will definitely sleep tonight. ;)

Hugely excited to see another build thread from yourself! The meticulous detailing of your method/process certainly helps this fellow modeller here!

Hello again Lythronax, glad these builds help you in your own work, hopefully you will not make some of the mistakes I have. 8)

Rather than have the previous thread go on and on I thought it better to have a separate thread for each vehicle and then just
focus on that one in work, the drawings for the trailer are there and the box prepared so that also will eventually have a thread
of its own, I am not going to bother with the motorcycle outriders that are shown and I think provided in the model kit this is
based on though. ;)

The difficulty I have in making the detail parts is lack of drawings so I have to do it all freehand so to speak by looking
at the various photographs, the outside I have a drawing but all internals nothing I can really use to scale things so in
most cases they will look a little out of scale from the purists perspective, however, this was always about creating
something close rather than exact.  :D

Initially I was going to make the Bedford a little less detailed but when I came across the restoration project it kind of
inspired me to go on as I had with the Thorneycroft. :o

The Thorneycroft was eventually released in its own thread and taken out of WIP:

Hello again guys, just a little update for you. ;)

Life issues and a general apathy set in for weeks and I just could not get going, anyway, I picked things up again. :o

So, where were we?

After all those deliberations as to what went were I eventually settled a connection thus:

Using what little I could actually see in the photographs I added a bolt to hold things and cloned for
the other side:

Painted up I think it looks convincing enough for me:

With that done I opted to leave the remaining arms out of the build for now and try and focus on the connectors
that attach the springs to the frame, I really struggled here, the build went through many iterations because I
just could not fathom how exactly this part was made.  I looked at it from all angles and from each it was as though
I was seeing a completely different part, it drove me crackers and every time I tried to do something it ended up
in the trash. :(

I started with this shape but soon ran in to difficulties:

In a round about way that developed into this:

Finally tonight I picked it up and just ran with it and put together something I think I can live with:

Talk about writers block, I just seemed to freeze every time I opened gmax, just could not focus, all the creativity
was just was gone, no will to proceed, however, at least now I think I can carry on although it will be slowly as I
have a computer course I intend try and do online, something new to me as I always did things in a classroom, I
need to remind myself of some of the basics so installed Microsoft Office and made a start but as usual for me I am
bound to get lost and all muddled up, I do envy those youngsters that can run the world from their phone. :D

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hey Pete, the connecting short orange arm and bolt are just right. Onlly the bolt should not penetrate the beam as shows on the right side! That would prvent the movement of the arm that actuates the damper it´s attached to! As for how the leafsprings are attached to the front assembly, the uppermost leaf is "rolle" to a cylinder at the end and a bushing is pressed in and a bpolt and nut secures it in place. The next leaf is formed to a tapered bend to follow the curve of the cylinder as shows in the picture. Guess it´s a hell of a job to get those parts made? Right?

Hello Flying H, thanks very much for the information, really appreciated. 8)

I could swear I saw that bolt in a photograph but maybe I mistook it for one of those holding the box close by, age and eyesight. :-[

The photographs in many ways are excellent, kudos to the guys who took them as they worked, however, they are of a larger scene so I cannot just zoom in and get any clear up close views of the parts I am trying to replicate so certain areas are impossible to make out. I do try and get them as close as possible but they will never be to the standard of a Haynes manual, more a painting than a technical drawing shall we say, hopefully the wheels and mudguards will cover the worst of my indiscretions once finished. :D

At the end of the day I hope to at least capture the overall look and feel of the vehicle and with you guys watching over me and pointing out the worst of my errors I will if possible correct it as I go, some things though will inevitably be too far on that they will just have to remain as is. :(

Hello Glen, I have started. :o

The course is nothing too elaborate I just felt I needed to update what little knowledge I had from the last computer course I did some thirty years or so ago, much has changed in the way things are done while some will be much the same so I am starting at the bottom again. I can no longer use the engineering skills acquired over a life time due to the damage to limbs so I thought it might be possible in the new post pandemic era to maybe do some king of work from home, maybe part time and digitally but whether that is possible who knows, at nearly sixty and in almost constant pain to various degrees sadly everything is against me but I will see what kind of mischief this gets me into.  ;)

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

You´re doing great with the info you get from the pics, I´m glad to help with the knowledge I have from working with vehicles, mostly busses, from a long gone era. I´ll try to keep a keen eye on your work and try to help you whenever I can.
Take care.

Hello again Flying H, funny you should mention buses, as I have indicated somewhere in one of these threads I also worked
for a truck manufacturer here in the UK and at one time many of our town buses were actually built on top of the very same
chassis as the longer delivery vehicles made in that factory, we used to see many of them around the country as well, sadly,
that aspect had been given up by the time I got there but I would imagine the same would be done in your country as well
so it all becomes relevant in this case and shows the commonality of many vehicles now and back then when the Bedford
was in production. ;)

I have not had much time to spend on the build lately, I took up a online course to revisit some of the computer skills I
had a go at 30 years ago, bought a copy of Microsoft office 2021 and made a start trying to catch up on what has altered
over the years so little time was available because of my continuing health issues to do the Bedford.

Anyway, a quick look at what I have managed. :D

I moved the bolt that was mentioned by Flying H to the other side of the chassis frame:

For some reason, maybe onset insanity, I decided to try and replicate those leaf springs as single parts, they
are the green objects you can see through the original springs:

The first one mapped and coloured:

Trying to create the length of each individual one, this is difficult with the tools available as they not only
elongate the part but also increase the bend so you have to tinker about to get them something like:

Some of the faces that would be hidden were cut out to try and reduce the polygon weight although they
are still considerable because I have tried to replicate the slightly rounded sides:

Due to the stretching of the original piece as I cloned it and adjusted each one when the whole set was
attached together I found it necessary to re-map once more and change things slightly on the template:

The end result, not as good as I would have liked, maybe I should have made each leaf as a new separate part
to get a better overall shape but anyway there we are altered on both sides:

I have no idea when I will get to continue but when I do I might also do this to the rear springs, however, first
of all I will finish the fixings to complete the front spring attachments when time allows. ;)

First of all a football final to watch. 8)

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D
