10 Sopwith Dolphin aircraft arrived in Poland in 1920 as a gift from the British government. The planes arrived by sea to Gdansk in April (the first 6) and May 1920. Originally, the first batch of 6 planes was directed to Lviv (the 3rd Mobile Air Park). In early July, they were sent back to Warsaw. The 6 Dolphin aircraft equipped the 19th Fighter Squadron, which defended Warsaw during the Battle of Warsaw in August 1920. The remaining four were a reserve.
Two planes were lost during the Battle of Warsaw: on August 8, during a combat flight, Lt. Zbigniew Bieniawski was shot down, and on August 14, the plane of cadet pilot Eugeniusz Guttmajer was hit and jumped during landing. A number of aircraft were damaged due to the failure of machine gun synchronizers. By the end of August 1920, only 1 aircraft was operational. After refurbishment, two Sopwith 5F1s were handed over to the 1st Zaporizhzhya Ukrainian Squadron in October 1920, and one was a dispatch aircraft (CWL 21.10) of the Chief of Aviation of the Polish Army Supreme Command. The Dolphins were withdrawn from service in 1921.
