Well, chums - it's been a while...

Having handed Catwoman over, I've been frustrated on all fronts modelling-wise and now find myself coming out of the what-to-build-next dither to end all what-to-build-next dithers.

On the plus side I know a lot more about Shermans than I did last week (to the point that - despite the box-top blurb, short of major surgery or cunningly placed tarps and/or cammo tape - this little feller is unsuited to anything other than a Red Army lend-leaser)

So when I get around to it, an Eastern Front 'Emcha' it is, then.

But I digress. Let's do a quick and simple (famous last words?) offering to ease myself back into this madness, and give my British/Canadian contingient a kickstart...see what I did there?

Thanks for dropping by, back soon with more motorcycling mayhem  ;)

A very quick build.  8)

Handling it might pose a problem, but should paint-up nicely...

Right! Let's get the figures done.  :)

Ready for a lick of paint. I figured the old oil drum full of gravel routine might work for the signpost...

Thanks for looking in - back soon with more babe-magnet madness  ;)

Hi Andy,

I avoided going through this thread because I knew it would suck me in.
From a modeller as a kid , who  stopped for other passtimes ( and in part
due to talent and patience limitations ) I just want to say it is a pleasure
seeing your process and results.

I have a challenge for you if you care to consider it.
Your skills are obvious , and I detect a little bit of searching for something new
reading between your lines.
What about if you made a diorama that was more about the terrain, setting and
a few carefully chosen figures than a specific model itself ?
For instance ( and only an example ) something like a German MG42 crew set up in a
break in a bocage hedgerow ( no not that simple ! ) while a German medic tends a wounded
soldier on one side , and a couple of unaware doughboys are creeping up along the bocage
on the other side. As I said just an example.
There are a lot of kind of "off-center" kits that are really interesting out there ( field kitchens ,
for example ) , Signallers perhaps.
What you do with this stuff is frre to your imagination.
Anyhow bud , I hope you continue to find inspiration , your work is a pleasure to
observe.

Kopfdorfer

PS another thought that just occurred to me is to have your loyal viewership send you
mystery kits for you to put together and/or insert into a diorama to be shown here.
Just a thought.

Thanks so much for kind words, Kopfdorfer  :)

I have several dioramas rattling around my addled brain - but I'm limited for display and storage space at the moment. I'm currently playing with snow textures for some greatcoated and white-sheeted Germans to cautiously advance behind a winter-cammo'd Tiger, some well-wrapped-up British figures to gather around a a battered old Sherman and supporting vehicles, maybe an Ardennes Panther, and from one extreme of temperature to the other, palm trees for my unintended Afrika Korps collection.

I'm always on the lookout for suitable buildings to put my Red Army vehicles and figures around - I still haven't given up hope of building a 'day the monster came to the village' diorama featuring a T-35 and supporting figures...and then there's my ever-expanding 'blitzkrieg' collection of panzer grey vehicles. Did I mention a lend-lease Valentine? A KV I? A KV II? T-28? An M10 tank destroyer?

Well...if anyone wants to see something jump the queue, sing out - I'd be delighted to put my procrastination to bed. Maybe I could list/photograph the stash and do a poll?

Anyhooo...the BSA's been sprayed olive drab, the glue and filler's setting on the MPs and my brushes are primed and ready. Stay tuned...

As far as I got tonight. Will let washes dry thoroughly before highlighting, decals and finishing touches under natural light...

A little more weathering and ready for decals. Just finding my rythm when family arrived. Back as soon as I've finished playing with my two-year-old great-nephew... ;D

I met a Canadian Army Recon/Dispatch Motorcycle driver from the HQ of LtGen Guy Simond's
II Canadian Corps in Normandy in 2004 ( Donald Dawson - don't recall his rank ).
He often rode ahead of the HQ Co. when they were on the move - in late August '44 especially -
to identify good buildings to use as CPs , and enjoyed the welcome of the French citizens
to among the first Allied soldiers they saw.

So very few left now, I used to love listening to them.

Well, family departed and decals finally on.  A little tricky, I should have left the handlebars off. Being a Dorset boy, I went for the 5th Dorsetshire Battalion, 43rd (Wessex) infantry Division option (as per boxtop).

Will let the decalfix do its' thing overnight before final weathering and touching in - the saddlebags aren't quite how I'd like them yet...

A little taster of where the whole thing's going...

Thanks for dropping by - back soon with more two-wheeled tulip collecting  ;)

Every year the Dutch send 20,000 tulip bulbs to Canada as a 'thank you'.
