History and Background by Lars
The heyday of the MC200 was from June 1940 until late 1941. Initially it suffered technical problems like all new types but by Series III it had become a valued fighter in the front ranks of the Regia Aeronautica, flying on all fronts including the Balkans, Russia, Malta and North Africa. Although it was under-powered and under-gunned it could out dive and out turn all opposition apart from the Spitfire. Due to its high setting it maintained the best cockpit view of any fighters up to even the late war period. It was one of the rare types that allowed the pilot to see behind and under his tail without weaving.

By late 1941 the MC200 had been replaced by the MC202 and Re2001 fighters. However, it still found a support role as a convoy escort and recce aircraft. In 1943, due to the high losses of all Axis types during the constant air raids leading to the invasion of Sicily, the MC200 was thrown intermittently into battle once again, both as interceptor and fighter-bomber. Many were lost on the ground to bombing. The main unit using it in Southern Italy was 157 Gruppo based at Grottaglie. Like its successors it was easy to fly, something the 1943 pilots were glad about when up against the odds.

Installation
This campaign was written and tested using the SAS BAT v4.2 Mod Pack, available here:
BAT Downloads (sas1946.com)
It may work on other modded systems but the campaign uses Command and Control objects and Triggers, so many mission features would be lost or unworkable. This campaign also features CarMaster’s Grass.

Extract the FOS_Mc200.zip file to a temporary directory.
•   Copy the decompressed Missions folder and the decompressed PaintSchemes folder to your IL-2 1946 root folder.
•   In the New Pilot Career page, choose Regia Aeronautica in the Air Force selection drop-down. Choose Fire over Fire over Sicily Part 7: Macchi Castoldi MC200 Saetta in the Career drop-down.
•   We recommend turning off No Instant Success for this campaign.
•   The campaign is designed to be compatible with any rank selection.

Credits
Many thanks to the BAT team for developing, maintaining, and improving the BAT Modpack. This campaign uses Command and Control and Trigger functions that were recently added to BAT.
We also thank the skinners out there. They bring a lot of life and realism to IL-2 missions everywhere. We could not identify the originators of all the skins we used in this campaign, but these we know:
•   MC200 - Abraxa
•   G55 - Stefano and Max the Hitman
•   MC202 - abraxa and serval
•   Re2005 - sakai
•   Re2001 – Metratron

How beautiful is how beautiful, a wonderful campaign that enriches the additional combat lines of the Regia Aeronautica.
A big thank you from the heart  ;)

Many thanks, Stefano, for the kind words. We are not done with the Fire Over Sicily series yet, but we will be taking a break for a while to do another project before we return.
