So i went to the bank to open a cafeteria account
And when i got home i somehow found this in my bag

I passed before a nearby Müller shop
Weird... Maybe models just teleport into my bag if I'm in the vicinity ;D

On a serious note, I've been eyeballing this little Queen for quite a long time
Today I checked in if they have some new models and found none.
Being the last of her kind, the mighty ocean liners, i finally took her
I like her look how Cunard retained the classic liner livery with a fake sheer, white superstructure and black hull while being a modern ship. I don't really like the look of modern passenger ships (cruise ships) but QM2 is a nice little balance between modern and classic
She'll be a fine piece in my collection

Very few parts, it seems like it's gonna a be a fun and short little build
The only thing I'm concerned about is painting the waterline accurately with such a tiny model with a bulbous bow, and then there's the sheer (who in the name of all that's holy would have guessed my problem will be painting again? :P)
Though I'm saved as there are decals for the black lines on the edges of the superstructure and also there are 3 decals for the bridge simulating the row of windows
I'm not gonna paint the little windows on the front and all the windows and railings on the side, i think it'll look better if I don't mess it up by not even painting it ;D

Also learned that there's a 1/700 version which... is... H U G E
That is 49.4cm, 1.4cm longer than my container ship

I've got a bag like that.  ;D

Looks like a fun kit. I keep seeing this one in my local model shop and meaning to pick it up as a project I can do with my great-nephew.

After a prolonged break from modeling, i've returned with a double warbird build

I got the il-2 for christmas last year from my gf but it was put on standby until i get myself to build some planes
And i got the me-262 for early christmas from her as well this year ;D

Paint on and curing
Since then I've painted some darker camo pattern on the 262 which is still wet
The il-2 is really close to being finished as since this photo i also painted its belly and added some corrections
Then some assembly, decals and they should be finished

Those are coming along well, the IL2 is one of my favorite Russian WWII planes.

Did you build your Queen Mary yet or is she on hold?

She's on hold, just like the titanic
I'll have my days off in the last 2 weeks and maybe i'll touch them up finally and finish them as well
Although the QM2 only has its hull painted yet and nothing assembled

My christmas present to myself

Edit: Just noticed the Dornier also has figures
Even more challenge yea ;D
Edit2: Even the Heinkel has figures while the box says figures not included lol

Meanwhile decals are on the Il-2 already. Only needs the antenna and pitot tube to be connected and I consider it done

The paint got into the bomb and rocket shackles' holes and dried so hard that i can't poke it free, so I'm not gonna put them on

The me-262 needs some camo (still) and the decals but I'll get it done when i also get some paint for the bombers. Now painting the canopies of the He-111 and Do-17 will really challenge me...

I have begun working on the Heinkel

Main paint on, the little bastard managed to flow under the masking tape
But no worries as it will be covered up by a darker green pattern (splinter or what is it called?)

At the same time i'll apply more camo to the me-262 too and get that done as well finally
Gotta say, the Heinkel looks cool as sh#t with this green-gray pattern doesn't it? ;D
This time i mixed some brown to the green so it isn't as vibrant bluish like on the 262 but more camo-like bit brownish green...you get it ;D

Oh yea... The canopy itself took me 2 hours

I tried to use masking tape on the canopy but i had no way to do it properly so again, i went for free hand painting. It of course didn't turn out well, but it's not that bad imo.
I tried using the surface tension of the paint to get it flow around the little moulded lines and it worked to some extent
Afterwards i'll still need to paint the belly so i'll fix the canopy when both paints are on

That's a great start on the Heinkel.  ]thumbsup[

Don't worry too much about canopy frames - as long as you're fairly neat (which you appear to be), you can tidy up the edges with a cocktail stick.  ;)

Atoka220, freehand canopy painting on a 1/72nd scale? Great job and a toothpick will be your friend on cleanup.

The Do17z canopy should be a bit easier.

Yes i used the toothpick a lot but i'll give it another go now as the paint dried and won't get smudged around

Thanks for the heads up

On anoter note, do you have any tips on how to mix paints well? Cause i just poured them in a big cap of a deodorant (hehe) and well the containers are now very painty even after cleaning them and i don't have anything to measure how many parts i put in. Maybe a syringe?
Cause i'll have to mix again for the do-17 and i like how the he-111's color turned out as of now
