PZL 24F and G gunsight
« on: December 06, 2021, 10:42:27 AM »

I discovered the gunsight on the PZL24 appears to be not set right. To hit a target you need to aim from halfway between the bottom of the black outer ring and the cross bar. The small reticule at the top of the ring, if that is its name, is too high and useless for aiming. Perhaps someone with experience of amending cockpits like WxTech could look at this.
Not a severe problem but it took a while to work out why the gunfire did not connect.

Is a minor issue you can tackle with adjusting the Hooks for Guns.
Matrix Params by Kumpel, and a fair share of estimation, trial and Error.
I did that too, though I'm a complete Rookie at Hooksn stuff.

Thanks Knochenlutscher. I am not familiar with Hooks for Guns and am not a programmer as such.

I learned to aim as described earlier and now get some flamers as opposed to knocking bits off. With limited ammo I am pleased to get one kill let alone more. It is a matter of adjusting to what we have so far, which is great anyway.

As you knew there are two positions for cockpit view, Camera (normal view) and CameraAim (gunsight view), check both of them so your line of sight is correct.

I find the planes shooting low in both settings indeed.

Fear not. My fix corrects the sighting alignment problem. The original 3D had a vertical offset between the front and rear sight parts.

Note that due to the closeness of the front and rear elements of the sight, proper centering of the eye is made difficult to judge. If one insists on staying in the '6dof mode' (not resorting to the fixed-in-place gunsight view), eyeballing a proper centering is not easy due to parallax error being made less sensitively perceived. If the separation between the two sight parts were to be increased, eyeballing good alignment would be made easier.

Is this model of the sight historically correct? I should think the designer in the day would have striven to establish a longer baseline (greater separation between front and rear parts) for a ready discernment of a good sight line.

I have dowloaded and unzipped your file. Can you please tell me which folder I have to add it to?

Drop ithe folder "Iron sight fix P-11c P-24" into #WAW3.

If you already have a cockpit mod for these planes, you could move the files from my mod into yours.

It will pay dividends to closely study the folder structure of the game until you are well familiar with it. Then there will never be a mystery about what goes where.

A good way to do this is to enable the dump mode check box in the selector, start the game, load a mission, fly for a few seconds, then quit the game. Disable the dump mode if you don't want to keep adding more stuff. Look in your game's root folder for a folder named "dump". It contains a boat load of folders and files that were loaded by the game upon startup and mission loading, and mirrors the game folder structure exactly. Browse its structure; this will teach you much.  ;)

Cheers!

Thanks Glenn. My hit rate has already improved! lol. That should make PZL campaigns and missions more satisfying for the players.

Strange how it all works. Learned to think in reverse when I used to dabble in DOS and BASIC back in the day but this is way beyond that.

I am not familiar with the dump mode but will check it out.

just make sure to turn it off again and delete "dump" once you have finished what you want, or it will flood your hard drive over time ;)
