Looking for classic B-17 campaigns
« on: December 09, 2021, 09:20:11 AM »

Now that we have such sexy B-17s and I had a lot of fun with them in HSFX, I noticed BAT's lacking some good old big heavy bird campaigns over Europe
Looking around on M4T and in the bat section of SAS I found nothing compatible

You beat me to it Kopfdorfer, LOL.

EDIT:  I've been tweaking this campaign again to incorporate taxi-to-takeoff for the bombers but it's languished a bit as my motivation comes and goes LOL.  I'll plug away.

The SP campaign seems to work in BAT.  ;)

From page 28 of my screenies thread, if you want to get an idea of what you might be in for...

Quote
JackStones' RLV campaigns (Fw-190 and Bf-109 v huge bomber formations)
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=974

Big Bird (B-17 campaign)
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=923

Boxcar (B-24 campaign)
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=932

Little Friend (P-51B-NA, P-47D-22, and P-38J )
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=931

All work for me in BAT - although the RLV 'regular' sized missions tend to stutter due to the size of formations involved, I might try the 'medium' option. I also found with RLV the Luftwaffe a.i to be over-effective in downing bombers from the rear, might be worth toning them down or reducing numbers involved. The campaigns were originally built in 4.101 using the Western Front map.

The SP campaign seems to work in BAT.  ;)

There are several missing objects and chiefs, but that will not prevent playing the campaign most likely.
You will probably encounter less Flak ;)

It can be fixed though. maybe in two or three days.

If Big Bird could work, I'd gladly help. I want to rearrange the formations and also add taxiing to make it really feel like the real thing (after JackStones gives permission for that ofc)
So are you gonna check incompatibilities for that, or should I get that script Vamp'?

Big Bird and co will NOT be playable without some crashes as I found mislabeled loadouts.

Nothing wrong with getting the script, Atoka, the more have it and publish converted campaigns, the better :)

But it takes some getting used to and some planning to convert a campaign. What replaces what and how to do it (mass search and replace) requires care and it gets better with experience. So tinker with it and test what you do for yourself first. Check maps too, which the tool can't. Maybe a map name is spelled differently and needs fixing, some maps have been altered by modders over the years and some layouts have changed so airfields and ports can be moved. Things like that...

I already have a sheet of standard typical replacement actions from a long time doing this, so for this one, I'd offer to convert the mis files to include only available objects and you can then improve them with FMB.

It looks like Boxcar is basically a plane replacement set of files, so I will do that as well in one go.

As for contacting the maker... JS was last active in 2012-ish. Most likely you won't catch the man anyway. Don't let this roadblock you.

PS:
here is the modified package of Big Bird and Boxcar

Yes, I tought it won't be a joyride at first like anything else but everyone will have to start somewhere

So these are good to go for BAT? If yes, I'll begin working on the waypoints and see what I can achieve while retaining frames ;D

Now turns out you forgot something as both campaigns have B-24s
No worries, I'll fix it as well in my go

Edit: Forgot to mention that when I open any mission in FMB, the title and descriptions disappear
Can I prevent it, or I'll have to copy it from the original files?
