Hi !
That seems to be a very ambitious project.
I'm building a 1939 - 1945 Luftwaffe campain myself, inspired by the Luftwaffe Pilot campaigns by FlatSpinMan. I started doing that in 4.09 -> DBW -> TFM -> TNFM -> CUP and ended up with BAT by now. Each upgrade shred something inside my campaign, esp. interlude tracks. But they are crucial to jump between the maps, as you don't have the same airfields at the seams. One day I'm going to learn mapmaking and will build these airstrips myself (maybe
). So I'm still stuck in the Phoney War / Invasion of France section.
My proposal is:
- You are lucky. There are tons of skins for JG26. Grab them all!
- Have a kind of story, which leads you as player from one mission and theater to the other in a logical way.You can transport the euphoristic beginnings, the mid-war desillusion, and the desparation of the last days that way.
- Invent a fictional pilot, which you can push around from squadron to squadron, so he can be witness of all the events you want to build in. You can let him begin as rookie and then climb the ladder as Rottenführer, Schwarmführer, Staffelkapitän and in the end Gruppenkommandeur.
- From time to time insert a mission, which is pure fantasy, but a lot of fun, for example test flight a captured Spitfire (and get chased by your comrades ?!?).
- Build the missions that way, that the involved AI as often as possible reach the same outcome as happend in real life.
- Then add your pilot (+ his dear wingman) in a section of the mission, where he only in the worst case can change the outcome. That's a bit tricky.
- Remember: AI is the proof, that there is life behind the screen. It never does, what it should. For sure. Don't let that frustrate you. Maybe better wipe that mission out then.
- Make a rank properties file with the highest rank as Major - Colonels will only fly on their desks, and not in the thick of the fight (except of Galland, of course).
- Build the first 15 missions that way, that rank doesn't matter. That's why I wrote witness above. You shouldn't alway be in the lead (and flying led ). Sometimes it's good to watch the action and only dive down on the hostile remnants heading for home.
All in all it's a lot of editorial work, but that can make fun, too, as you don't need to stare and the screen all the time....
For historical correctness there is some research waiting for you. Here is a little starter:

And: Take yourself time. It is a game and it should be fun, nothing else.
Have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and always a clear six,
