I'd say that this year just being around loved ones and appreciating that time is a good way to go.
( and try to squeeze in a flight somewhere )

In Japan, where I live, there is Christmas, but

It has long been a custom to have postcards reach the other party on January 1st.

A "New Year's card", which is related to 12 animals, is used repeatedly.

 Although it is called the "Zodiac", next year will be the year of the "tiger".
