WxTech's Videos & Screenshots

Showcasing ground effects in my Effects Mod v1.3. In brief, an airfield is populated with many targets. I have unlimited ammo, and the cockpit is turned off so as to provide maximum visibility. More info in the description.

And of course I immediately subscribed to your channel, Glenn!
And of course, right away, you are tweaking, as we all have to do the first few times.
But your OCD attention to detail tweaks will have you creating some very cool videos,
of that I have no doubt!

All the best, and I will patiently wait for your first full-blown production, even as I do your cool mods.

My aim at present is not so much to get all fancy and pump out creations that are paragons of eye- and ear-popping production value.   ;)  Rather, simple and serviceable are the watchwords of the day...

But the future is as always a winding path shrouded in impenetrable mist. Who knows what fit of fancy my meandeting muse might inspire me to tomorrow?

Showcasing damage effects on tankers, primarily. To maximize visibility, my Hellcat's cockpit is turned off. Bombs (1000 pounders) are unlimited. As a friendly force of capital ships lobs shells at a Japanese force, I bomb a few tankers, then a cargo ship, then fly past a Japanese BB to observe the big guns letting loose.

Note the shrapnel splash pattern when a bomb detonates above the water line against a ship (or bridge over a river). A near miss in water will not generate this shrapnel splash, but ship damage is of course still imparted. The old water ring effect, which was too short-lived and also expanded too rapidly, is replaced in cases of significant water impact with longer lasting patches of much more slowly expanding disturbance. This applies for bullet/cannon shell hits.

Toward the end, as I fly past that BB, observe the big gun fire and smoke effect.

Looks cool.
To me, compared to the now very prominent explosion, fuel fire and ship gunnery effects, the flak "puffs" in the air seem to be almost non-existent.
From WW2 footage I seem to remember that the air was literally flooded with flak explosion clouds in comparable situations. Just saying.

Mike,
The smaller calibre flak bursts were mostly occurring some distance from my plane. As you know, they have a timed terminal detonation, and thus tend to occur in 'walls' lying at a certain distance from the ship lobbing them.

The larger calibre stuff is there in the usual, expected number, as far as I can discern. The total number of such guns among the ships present was not terribly large; I didn't set up a full task group.  ;)  I suppose the rate of fire parameter will have a role to play, although I did not alter this from whatever is the stock rate.

In case anyone hasn't installed the new F2A-2 gun sight mod that I obtained years ago from AAA back in my 4.08 days, here's a video showing it in action. The first short portion is an examination, followed by the shooting up some Japanese bombers.

Looks pretty awesome mate!

I never use gun sight mode though, it's not realistic.

It is indeed amazing, and the scenes during shooting as seen through the viewfinder and from the cockpit surpass those shown in some feature films, in my opinion.

I think they are as realistic as possible, taking the realism of the whole IL 2 '46 BAT

Highlighting the current state of 250kg and 1000kg bomb impacts on land and water, as of late Jan, 2022, in the upcoming v1.4 release of my effects mod. Note that for land impacts there are 4 variations of the effect, hence the large number of drops so as have a good chance of seeing all of them.
