Unrealistic start-up
« on: January 04, 2022, 03:59:56 AM »

We have seen quite a few complaints lately about the AI in Il-2, and I have one too: When starting the engines, some planes are dancing on the runway very unrealistically. Sometimes so much that the plane is placed on the runway at an angle therunway or even worse, bury themselves in the runway. Just look at the 3 Brewster Buffalo variants and the Piper Cub PA18.

I sincerely hope that one of the modders can do something about this.

I've not had this happen with the Buffalo. (I've never started the Cub, or even flew it.)

What happens if you kick in the chocks before firing up the engine?

Is this happening for the AI planes as well?

All 3 Brewster's work.
The B-239 version moves a little laterally... very little.
The Piper on the other hand moves too much.
In my game its wheels are very big which doesn't seem to be the case in your screen!  :-X
However, if you start the engine yourself and then engage the "auto-pilot", it seems to work better!

It is player only, on very light aircrft with some noteworthy torque. (Ai has some simplifications on take off and landing)
Chocks eliminate it.

Note: by putting on the chocks and then engaging the "auto-pilot", everything goes well!

why autopilot???
simply put in chocks, start up, remove chocks, take off.

A little bit like in real life? ;)

why autopilot??
I am talking about the auto-pilot because the applicant is talking about AIs in his post!
But the AI's work properly for the Piper!
So I thought he meant the auto-pilot from his screen!

Epervier is right, I choose an aircraft in QMB, select scramble as mission and when the mission is loaded I'll engage autopilot. Sometimes with the result as above.
