The Far North - South China Sea maps ...
« on: January 05, 2022, 06:16:50 PM »

Here are two maps almost nearing completion. One is set in a fictional Far North area, replete with frozen mountains and broken glacier terrain. Never had a map that was so fluent to make, hardly had to go endlessly looking for appropriate textures. All seemed to flow smoothly from one level of complexity to the next. Perhaps because the dominant color was white.

Another is of the South China Sea and Vietnam as landmass with Haiphong as main city.

Some maps and screenshots.

I smell Canada / Alaska  :)

(I am working on a strange adventure mission set in the far snowy north right now)

I do like your "generic" type maps quite a bit.

I never thought about Alaska or Canada, but actually that could work very well.
generic maps are fun because you needn't follow and try to replicate something akin to the actual terrain. Anything goes ... and they can be as empty as you wish. Cities for instance always give problems: too dense a number of objects and the frs drops instantly. Too few and the city looks very unrealistic.

Anyway, all I need now is one good winter airfield texture. And I can't decide whether to use concrete runways or not. They often look a but contrived on maps.

Given that you can place concrete texture as mission objects nowadays, I think, if you want to keep "as generic as possible", that's not necessary to put in the map. That way, a mission builder can set a concrete airfield template up if they wish to but they aren't preset with it.

All I'd need would need a big enough flattened area around the airstrip so I can set you up a plausible jet age strip just with a template.

Just two cents.
