No letter code in skin activation
« on: January 29, 2022, 06:27:02 AM »

Hello everyone! I have a skin problem at Wellington and Whitley. On these two planes, the skin appears but no  letter code from those in the squadron table. The skin is applied in the game, but the letter codes do not appear. Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you!
All the best to everyone!

Some mods just do not have this feature.
If a mod maker does not know enough to integrate it, it is not present.

Other than by disassembling the mod and make better than the modder knew?
No.

Meanwhile, use skins with markings painted on :)

Yes, that's what I've done so far, but I didn't understand why it doesn't activate the unit's identification code. And wouldn't it work if I reinstalled the planes? Excuse my insistence.

To display my national marks or identifications it is necessary to put overlays in the concerned meshes.
As Andy says, many aircraft in many mods do not have these overlays.
But if you want to learn modding... this is a good opportunity!  ;)
Example of a "Tail" mesh with 4 possible markings!

Overlay2
Overlay3

Why would that change anything? It is just not integrated in the mod.

What Gabriel describes is something taht needs to be done in the meshes that make up the modded plane. Specific areas must be assigned to be skinned with what is called Overlay textures in Il-2. This needs to be done in the 3d tool where the mesh is created. It is nothing that can be simply done "just like that". It is a 3d modding thing.

Some modders don't care about it, some may not know how to do it right, i don't know. Fact remains, many mod planes do not contain this overlay feature and only work with marked skins. Until maybe some day a 3d modder comes along and does the work. Which happens not often to never.

(which then messes up all old missions with premarked skins :D )

Thank you, gentlemen`s! Epervier, anyway I am too beginner or unskilled in programming to advance in such changes. I'm just starting to build campaigns. That's how I came across some problems.

Thank you both!
