(Fictional) P-38 variants
« on: January 29, 2022, 07:19:50 AM »

Hello everyone,

As stated in another thread (Fictional version of He-111 request), since we love both historical and 'what if' aircraft.  Since that day the threads related to Steampunk + Petrolpunk, dieselpunk, and atompunk have been created, it inspired me to post 'what if' aircraft.

P-38 with floater

Post war P-38

Note: I am currenty looking for more "What if" P-38 images.  If any of you have more 'what if' version of P-38s, please post it here too.

Cheers

Not really "Steam punk" but more "realistic" variations of the basic P-38 airframe.

1.  Single tail ....  (Very feasible and well suited to carrier ops, ie Tigercat  :D :D :D)

2.  With floats .....

3. ..... and this other obvious engine swap,  but this has already been done IIRC ...  ;)

About SAS~GJE52,

Thank you for the pictures of an alternative P-38s!  I am adding them to the main post.

About the navalized P-38s from the picture, there is a good new.  Navalized P-38 mod exists as an add-on mods and in BAT

Yes, I know about the radial engine, navalised P-38 mod…. Called the Trident. I actually made it a few years ago along with the two seat night fighter variant… but I doubt if anyone remembers that now.

Hello Glynn, hi Chaoic,

I assume that this P-38 is meant:

That is very interesting!  A big respect to you for creating the fine mods, especially with the fact that P-38s are my favorite fighter plane of the World War Two.  If you ever decide to make more various P-38s, that would be awesome too.

Thank you for the link, I am going to download and add it to IL-2 1946 collection.

It is great to see open-minded people here who also enjoy an alternative combat aircraft designs.  This is why I am posting more of steampunk, petrolpunk, dieselpunk, and atompunk, along with alternative aircraft designs here.

I know we all have our own issues and problems, however, sadly for several reasons both in real life (and in cyberspace here) I had to step away from both the wider community and modding. It becomes a kind of all consuming passion if you let it … almost an addiction really. It can quickly become a “Don Quixote” existence … a kind of toxic interaction similar to his “tilting at windmills”that is not good for your mental health. I know I have some bitter enemies in this community but luckily I also have a couple of very considerate friends who have acted as my “Sancho Panza” .  I also have a beautiful granddaughter who helps me put things into perspective.

Take care guys.  ;)

No Full quote

I can understand and relate to your situation.  I've done modding and other hobbies that requires a lot of time during earlier in my life.  It is good to take a break and take care of your real life situation.

Right now I am writing a book that is directly related to a big mod projects for SF2 (Strike Fighter Project 2).  It involves two fictional nations and their airpowers, especailly the wars and small conflicts.  It spans from 1910s to 1990s.  Maybe it can be made for IL-2 1946 too someday? (for WWI to post WWII).  It is taking a lot of my times too, since I design the nation history, cultures, aircraft inventory, squadron, their emblem, etc..  I am balancing between modding, any hobbies and real life.

Very interesting ideas.
In my opinion a Turbojet Variant would be cool also.

The float 38 was a real world project - one flew with modified upswept booms but I don’t think the floats were ever installed
