map_c not converting properly!
« on: January 31, 2022, 10:55:31 PM »

I'm trying to make a map of the North Sea (the Scotland-Norway-Denmark map is not at 1:1 scale, and I can't figure out how to get the existing North Sea map to work as a conventional map instead of a JSGME mod) and I've made my Mymap_c.tga file. It's about 364 MB in size, and about 19104 x 20000 pixels in size (both divisible by 32), yet when I try to use map_c tools or the Map_c Toolbox, it doesn't work!

map_c tools closes too quickly to see if it's complaining about anything useful, but after a long waiting time at the "creating map_c.tga_table" it says "Abort: Map too complex" and doesn't work. Is my map too big? Is there something I've done wrong? It's in greyscale .tga (no RLE compression) yet it doesn't want to work.

Due to the file's size, I haven't uploaded it yet, in case this is a general issue and looking at the file itself isn't necessary. If that does turn out to be the case, however, I'll put a mediafire link here. Please, let me know if there's anything that can be done!

It's because your map_c image is unflatten. Flatten it before using map_c toolbox

I'm not sure what you mean by that - it doesn't have any layers when I look at it in GIMP...

1 layer does not mean that the image is flatten. The layer itself may content a transparency canal.
In Gimp you know it, at first glance : If the layer has no transparency, the tittle is in bold.
Yours is probably not.
Go to image tab and click on 'flatten the image'.

I tried it, and it didn't work :/

Is there any way to get the map_c tools from not closing their dialog windows instantly so I can see what they're complaining about?

Do follow, step by step, KevinĀ“s mapbuilding manual:

Hi RobotSpark

I had exactly the same problem you have described above, I came to the assumption that some maps are just too big.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,63962.msg703931.html#msg703931

Yesterday I created a new map which was 23648 x 10304 with no problems at all, so there seems to be a definite cut off in what Map_c Toolbox can handle.
I don't know what part system resources (RAM) plays in this.
Don't even waste your time with map_c tools, like you said it doesn't even open with maps this size.

Make sure your image is greyscale and unflatten. Then, while exporting as tga, make sure that RLE compress is unchecked.
That will work, no matter the size.
