Anyone know the U.S. 50cal Weapon Names?
« on: February 01, 2022, 05:38:06 PM »

I have been noticing there are several different .50BMG rounds for U.S. aircraft.  I don't get what they are, and after a little testing its still hard to tell.

I know in real life you would have things like incendiary rounds, or armor piercing.

Even "extra" incendiary which the P-47M had special for fighting Jets and setting them on fire, which unfortunately is not modeled here since the P-47s all have "BrowningM2", which I assume is some standard type.

Does anyone know what any of these abbreviations mean for the 50cals?

The list:

Browning50APIT
Browning50k
Browning50kAPIT
Browning50si
Browning50kWF
Browning50NT (on the night fighter Hellcat, shows no tracers)
Browning50s
BrowningM2

Would be nice if they were integrated weapon load out options.

There's ball ammo, tracer, headlight tracer,  Armor Piercing, Incendiary, and Armor Piercing Incendiary Tracer. I don't believe there were other .50 ammo types in ww2, but I may be wrong.

APIT = Armor Piercing Incendary Tracer
k = non-synchronized, generally in the wings
s = synchronized
i = internal spent casings (not ejected)
NT = no tracers
W = ?
F = ?

These designations can be combined as necessary.

"h" guns are gunpod guns, you can turn them off explicitely using the gunpod hotkey.
"t" guns are turret ones.
