Take a German fighter, FW-190A-3..., Bf-109G-2...

Fly against a LaGG...66, La-5, La-7...!

Then try the same in v4.12.

Do it, and you know what's not right.

I logged in lots of hours in every variants of P51, Me109 and Fw190 in QMB one on one against ACE (not AVERAGE) opponent.  I flew them against each other.  I am more successful in P51's.  Mustang can outmaneuver and outfly both 109 and 190.  I spent little time with Tempest but i still fly it better than 109 and 190.

My favorite is the Mustang but i will not claim it as the best fighter.  I am better pilot than the above aircraft mentioned even if its Mustang vs Mustang.

Ace or Average has nothing to do with the skill of the pilot. Ace, unlike Average, is able to hit the target (whatever it is) more accurately (perfectly)!

In UP3 [(online with the clowns) FAC] I'm able to shoot a P-51 Mustang out of the sky with a Bf-109F-2!

The trick is: to climb at the right moment, to reduce the gas, to switch the coolers correctly and to operate the combat flaps perfectly.

The P-51's AI works almost perfectly as programmed. You have to practice this with the Bf-109F, and you will find that the Bf-109Fx - Gx is a wonderful fighter.

FW-190D-9

FW190D the best fighter? Stock 4.12 FW190s have always been very poor fighters in my eyes—terrible climb rate, bleeding energy very quickly, and stalling at the drop of a hat.

Really? Flying against aces seems to make a large difference to me in BAT. They seem to maneuver much more violently and unpredictably when you're on their 6s, and turn a lot harder to avoid you getting there in the first place.

Of course, all of this is just speculation without looking into the code and flightmodels.

For me, the best fighter in BAT WAW is the La-7. It can outclimb and fly loops around pretty much anything else it meets.

with La-7 (and the unkillable La-5) You're right!

But, I wrote about IL-2 v4.10 and #UP3!

I wrote it very often here, IL-2 v.4.12 changed a lot with the red (Russian) fighters.

Try to fly the FW-190D-9 (1944), not the rest of FW-190D-9xxx!

Please also note the tremendous firepower of the FW-190D-9.

Play some other very accurate sims also and with all combined,including IL-2 BAT, i like the Fw 190A series, P-38 series, P-47 series the most. The P-47D/M being my favorite. Also love the Spitfire Mk IX . Respect everyone's opinion but this is just me... Regards,Scott

I enjoy the J2M3 or J2M5, fast, manoverable it can hold its own against all
late war aircraft. Early war I like the Hurricane its stable easy to fly, great plane
to learn Dog fighting in. The mid war errar the often forgotten Fiat G55 /56
excellent aircraft by all standards. However none of the above would be possible
with out the amazing talent of the moders and the people involved with a running
this site. Thank you all very much

      In 2004/2007 when I flew in the MOH squadron, I think the version was 4.09, the fighters with the highest % of victories were the A6M5, 109G-2, LA-5, KI-43, yak-3, Spitfire MkVc 4 canons and the I-185M-71.
    But what gave me pleasure was using tactics to take them down with the FW190.

Sadly, those good old days are gone forever!

Despite everything, I remain loyal to my Bf-109F - G and FW-190A-3 - D-9!

Thanks Gerhard ! Also talking from a factual experience of performance. At altitude the P-47M will outfight anything the Germans had. In the PTO the P-47N was a killer. At lower altitude the Fw-190A's were unbeatable in the right hands. Spitfires were good but had limited range.The P-47 could do the damage AND bring you back home to base, and had the lowest loss rate of any fighter in WW II. My love affair with the P-47 is firm ! Love the history behind WW II aircraft and the pilots who flew them. Courage is found on all sides of the war. Regards, Scott
