"Aiming device" of "N1K1-J"
« on: February 15, 2022, 06:05:44 PM »

I have a question.

Is it possible to move the center of this "sight"?
The airplane in this image is "N1K1-J".
I think the same phenomenon occurred with "N1K2-Ja".

Hi RABIZO

Go into control settings and assign the head movement keys (raise and crouch), in this situation you want to lower your pilot.

The default pilot's position, as well as the position set when the 'gunsight view'key is hit, is defined in one of the cockpit meshes, usually Body.msh.

I have a modded cockpit I cooked up years ago, which includes better glass for the canopy, armored glass and gunsight reflector plate. I will shortly make it available. Having that, you can adjust the two view positions to suit your own tastes.

The head tracker (with 6dof capability) user should rarely have to use the aim view key. Ideally never. Except, of course, for telescopic sights and any other other 'specialty' situations set up to require to do so.  ;)

I find it so much more 'free' to stay in the same view mode to the fullest extent possible. To this end, for cockpits I work on I expand the range of 6dof limits to further facilitate this freedom of movement, and thus immersiveness. Not having to keep tapping a key or stick button while fighting in order to 'artificially' switch views while fighting is just one more of the little things that makes the sim more enjoyable.

I wrote 'artificially' just now because the sight view generally locks the PoV into one place. You're stuck at one position, now lacking the ability to move as necessary to derive the sight picture demanded in the moment. Furthermore, the transition between PoVs takes a fixed amount of time, and you are locked into the path set out between the PoV station points. (This delay in switching between the view points might be an artifact of the smooth zoom mod.) These various limitations make for an annoyance I prefer to avoid.

Here's a comparison of the altered PoVs I use. This screen grab is taken from the free Mesh Viewer utility.

The stock locations of the viewpoints are shown as ghosted yellow boxes. Mine are the solid green boxes. Both have been moved forward just about equally, and the 'normal' PoV (farther back) has been moved downward so as to bring the reticle fully into view. This was done long before I got my TrackIR5; I was then using FreeTrack with a cheap webcam, with which I had to 'fake' 5dof by tying the translational movements to the panning ones.

The PoVs are set in Mainehull.msh. Most cockpits have them in Body.msh, but many German and Japanese 'pits use Mainehull.msh. One can place the PoVs wherever they like. Outside the cockpit, even, if that meets some need! It involves merely increasing or decreasing one or more of the three X, Y and Z values. I indicate which does what, as well as in which direction movement is effected when increasing the value.

The mod will follow shortly...

Mod released.

It took me a few hours longer than anticipated because this 'pit mod was an older job I did back in 2016, when I was still flying 4.08. I had to make a few more changes to make it fully compatible with B.A.T. (Note that there are no classfile changes done here.) It should work fine in 4.12.

Here's a screenie:

"GenXgamer" "WxTech" "SAS ~ vampire_pilot" "SAS ~ Storebror". .. .. Thank you, everyone.

It seems that the new setting was announced by "WxTech", so
I will try it.

I wasn't in time to make the video this time
Using the top and bottom of the viewpoint of "Track IR 5"
I tried while adjusting the position of the sight.

exactly, however for me the N1K1J is correct unlike the models of 262s for which it is mandatory to use the Aim View Key.
