I looked over the file in my upload folder, to confirm it's the correct one. But just to be sure the Mediafire archive is current, I just uploaded it again.

It was my mistake, Glenn, Hermes is fine. What had happened was that I had also put a US CV (Intrepid 1970) in the mission as well, and I was looking at the external view of that one - where the problem also appears. Tried Kearsage, too, and same issue.

Obviously not worth going through the whole lot and correcting them, you would be at it forever. There could well be some WW2 CVs with the same issue as well. I think I'm just going to swap out BigShipGeneric with the 1.3 version when using those vessels - that is the beauty of jgsme!

P.S. Intellectual curiosity moved me to WAW, and just a quick check on a few CVs there. RN CVs appear fine, most Japanese were ok - I did find the error in the Hiryu. So probably a few more floating about (pun intended).

For any of the modern tubs having this issue, you could have the Selector's dump mode pump them out, then pack 'em up so I can look 'em over. Having discovered the preferred orientation for the hooks, the fixing process should be fairly quick.

Good idea. I'll work through them when I have the time (and morale). I might (will) need instructions on how to use dump mode, though.

To run in dump mode, double-click Selector.exe in your game's root folder. Hit the "Change Settings" button. You will then see a dump mode check box; click on it. Then select "Save Settings". You can close, or Start Il-2 right away.

When you next start, all game resources used will be written to a folder called "dump" in the root game folder. to get the ships you want to be written out, load any mission having them.

Before doing this, you could first ascertain what ships need fixing. Then make a mission having just those. Fire up the game in dump mode, load the mission (being sure your in-game location is close enough, and not on the other side of the map  ;) ), then quit, exit, and deselect dump mode in the selector and save that change.

Note that dump mode will be in effect until you deselect it and save the change.

If you have no further plans with the dumped contents, you could delete the folder "dump."

I just checked out the dozens of US, UK and JP ships (no subs) in BAT 4.0 WAW that have any chance of being used in the Pacific. I found 29 that have problems with the wakes, in one manifestation or another, worthy of fixing. And some of these would not be so nice in the stock treatment, either.

Same with JTW. So far, every CV I have looked at experiences the problem. Question: is it worth it? Is there a way to adjust your changes to avoid the issue?

I love your work on effects - transformed the game for me in many ways. But as I fly mainly maritime missions it is probably a case of diminishing returns - I was pretty happy with v1.3 so have for now, at least, reverted to that version.

I hope you don't mean to use the entirety of the v1.3 pack!  ;)

For the time being use the BigShipsGeneric classes from my v1.3 pack, but retain all the rest of the v1.4 stuff.

The only meaningful difference is the new wake handling.

Hopefully we can get the hooks issue straightened out across the board. I suspect that the mod ship makers over these many years have had no familiarity with the way the _Left, _Centre and _Right hooks are utilized. They got lucky in some respects due to simplicity of the scheme for their use, which did not suffer from instances of the L-R reversal. And the starting points of the wakes was usually masked by the hull.

My approach is more mathematically rationalized, even taking into account the planform aspect ratio of the hull (the length to beam ratio). You can look over the bigShipGeneric.java files for v1.3 and v1.4 to see the differences. Search for "wake" to be pointed to the relevant section of code.

Unfortunately, yes. If you just copy over the BigShipGeneric folder from 1.3 over the CV shows in FMB, but not in the mission i.e. attach aircraft to carrier, run the mission, no flattop, splash in the drink!

Thats correct. I for one never really understood the Left Centre Right hooks.   Jus made it work by trial and error.

A short concise guide to the correct way to use _Prop _Nose _Left _Centre _Right would be useful.  I am wondering if I need to amend any of my past efforts?

Curses!

Are you running BAT 4.1.2 or later? If so, for both v1.3 and v1.4 I used the bigShipsGeneric.class code that was cleaned up by Mike (Storebror), and assume it's reliable. I have less confidence in the class for 4.12 and BAT earlier than 4.1.2 due to the decompiler I use having occasional issues.  :(

I'm merely a Java monkey, and also don't have sophisticated/capable development environment software in which to work. I spent hours trying to get set up with Eclipse, per Mike's tutorial, but in the interval between the tutorial's creation and the date I dove into the Java waters was too long; a number of links were dead or so altered as to completely frustrate any progress. And so I'm still using primitive 'tools.'
