A closeup of the new net. Some additional notes on my design philosophy...

For netting I don't follow the usual practice of orienting the surface normals always perpendicular to the polygon so that a surface is brightest when the illumination source is shining upon it face-on. Rather, I orient all surface normals vertically (the vector being 0 0 1), so that the net over ALL its surfaces--inside and out--will be equally illuminated, being brightest at midday and darkest at midnight. That is, there are no brighter and darker surfaces to indicate the direction from which the illumination arrives. Why? For a couple of reasons.

First, the irregularity of the elements which provide the camouflage tends to cause self-shadowing, which goes toward defeating the directionality cues for illumination we would obtain from a flat surface. This includes the view from the erstwhile shadowed side, where some parts of the 'crumply' bits will be illuminated, thus diminishing the degree of shadowing. And depending upon the material used, there may be some of what amounts in a fashion to 'translucency'.

Second, in the game environment this approach is more effective in camouflaging because there is no appearance of an obvious 'box' having brighter sides and darker ones. The 'flat', low-contrast appearance, with no shading cues, does a better job.

And yet another addition. I found that the 13m bay size of the wood revetment is too small for the big fighters like the Hellcat. And so I quickly made up a slightly up-scaled version to a bay size of 15m (which took all of a few minutes). This 15% enlargement does not result in a cartoonish fattening of the 'logs'.  ;)

Here the original 13m job is at the right, with a P-40 ensconced within. The other two are the 15m version. The Corsair can just barely squeeze into the smaller pen, but the 15m bay size is better for it, and for the Hellcat it's absolutely necessary.

G'day mate

These are great additions to the game, I hope others are as pleased as I'm am.

Two more additions to the family.

One is a single-thickness wall for the smallest (13m bay) pen, as opposed to the original double-thickness. I think it looks better. Not sure if it's worthwhile to keep the double-thickness wall job...

The other is a further enlargement of the original via simple scaling to a 17m bay dimension, to accommodate yet larger fighters like the P-38, shown here. I'm starting to not like the fatness of the logs with this degree of up-scaling. I wonder if I'll have the enthusiasm to further tweak the texture...

From right to left:
- Original 13m, double-thickness, with P-40
- 13m, single-thickness, with P-39.
- 15m bay size, with F6F.
- 17m bay size, with P-38.

Incidentally, I darkened the new hanging camo net's texture, in case I forgot to mention it.

Well, I remade the texture so as to increase the number of logs making a wall. That is, the logs have effectively been made thinner, which also decreases the wall thickness. I've decided to forego the 15m bay size, figuring it's neither fish nor fowl, being so close to 13m and 17m. And so just the latter two will be on offer.

As already revealed, I have the 13m job available in both a single- and double-thickness wall. So far the 17m variant has just a double-thickness wall; I am debating making up a single-thickness wall version.

I think I'll offer as well a simple wall, from which one can make up any custom pen as circumstances dictate. I may offer it in a couple of sizes, and perhaps in single- and double-thickness forms.

... normally, the single wall version should be a bit "wider" inside, than the double one, which could prove useful, or am I totally wrong ...? ;)

that sounds like a practical idea! I like these woods revetments verry much, they bring a nice touch to panoramas.
thank you very much for your work so far!

By "wider", do you mean more space between the walls? My design approach is based on the interior dimensions, with the wall thickness being external to that. For example, if I have a 13m bay with a 0.5m thick wall, the exterior width is 14m. If another 13m bay variant has a 1m thick wall, the exterior width is 15m. Both have the same interior space.

The wood revetment and wall objects currently in the set to be released. From right to left:
- 13m bay, single thickness
- 13m bay, double thickness
- 17m bay, single thickness (taller than 17m double)
- 17m bay, double thickness (scaled up from 13m double)
- 8 x 2m wall (all walls single thickness)
- 12 x 3m wall
- 16 x 4m wall

None of the above have damaged versions created.

I will be including my earthen pen as well, and the two variations of the hanging netting.

G'day WxTech

Really impressive!

I think the thinner log texture is better suited for pacific region as well.

These plus the masking nets and not forgetting red tracers will make an appearance in a project I'm currently work on.
