P-47 Thuds reslots with Schnickschnack
« on: March 16, 2022, 06:34:57 AM »

The title says it all, a Kitsch, Bling-Bling Beta we had here totally bugged up.
Griffon303 came up with the idea of reslots, the rest you see here.
Recently I had nerves enough to go after these ferrocious insects, slapped all and Tadaahh...
I put more effort in the drawing of the cover actually, but as always, I love trash,
and at least some parts are for remniscenting old Mods and passion for our Hobby.

Important Note, the author can't recall any other differences to BAT Thuds, other than Droptank or Propeller related.
I might have heard of Cockpits, but shoot me. When did we had this Beta?
After the Fireflies? Gosh, that's Years, I can't remember all the Details.

Tobis Thuds (Droptank addition, Propeller)
P-47C-15
P-47D-25
P-47D-26
P-47D-28
P-47D-28CE

Griffon Thuds (old Cockpit, Java, Propeller ?)
P-47D-30RE
P-47D-40RA
P-47M-1RE
P-47M-2RE
P-47N-5

The result works in BAT latest, flies, and looks put like a Barbie Doll, behind the trashy ideas.

P-47D Late Versions 30 and 40

The cockpit in this package is an expansion on the following prior developments:
The base work by Poncho and Taurus who were the first to take on to modify the poorly made original cockpits of P-47.
Further development by Freddy who produced an attractively looking show piece, but of limited practical value. The technique he used resulted in some 350MB of wasted texture volume with about 4 times vertex count of the original cockpit.
Development of gunsight reticles by NonWonderdog.
The cockpits in this package use a mixture of the original, previously modified or new - meshes and textures. Its functionality is defined in a set of Java classes - extensively modified from the originals. It also includes custom sounds imported from various sources (reprocessed).
So, many thanks for the inspiration and the previous work by:
Poncho,Taurus, Freddy, NoWonderdog and others.
Finally, it goes without saying, this work is for others to use, explore or expand, as it has always been in the spirit of the IL-2 modding community.

Kumpel
September 2010
P.S. I would like to make one thing clear - this project does not use Freddy's P-47 cockpits. Some of his work, mainly the instrument panel, was a core of the initial work, but effectively there is not a single item from Freddy's creation that has not been improved, modifed or replaced.
Should anyone be interested in the actual differences, Freddy's work is available from Histomod website.

Post is gradually worked up... Today I'm at double work, need to go and help my uncle after office on some building projects. Possible that it'll be a days spanning Project, I only get to know when it's too late.

Hello Tobias,

unfortunately, I don't quite understand what you want to tell us about the P-47.

In my experience Sony players often have dirty schnickschnacks.

YES! You're right!

But here my problem seems to be a mechanical defect.

The drive motor is doing the schnickschnack, loose contact (Wackelkontakt).

Best regards

I spot a somewhat different droptank.
Not sure whether right or wrong, but definitely different.

Ah, I think you are right. Are the pylons different also? They look heavier/sturdier than ones I have seen in the past. I use the P-47 on occasion but not that frequently though.

Yep, apparently the wing pylons got some refresh as well.

Gerhard,
hard to tell from memory what's the Topic on the 30/40, Ms and Ns, I was told to do, we faced trouble, sth worked, details of Java,
dunno if you understand, as I had trouble understanding too what I was doing exactly. I just shuffled the files.
In the end I did sth. The difference in the Griffon Idea is a switch back to I think if I'm getting it right?,
To the older stage? If that exists?! Correct me.
The Jerry Droptank Thuds are as Mike depicted clearly, just new tanks sitting on new Slots.
I could have taken the Jugs Pack, but I feared I crash that Mod with my Skills.
At Griffons Part it must meant new Slots for the experiments, nothing more.
It works, but I don't claim it mine or perfect.
It flies that's all. Sometimes Modding is experimenting, here based upon Griffons wishes,
which I dealt with, just like a few other of my Mods.

What I found out on research was the propeller thingy, so that was the 2nd Phase, getting a variety of historical Propeller Versions.
Just for the optics, as I loved it that way.

Update

First Post is ready, please find updated Info as well

Thanks for the patience, bit late, but we have it sorted,
later Today when back home I'll post better Screenshots

See ya all

... yep, looks like a German tank ...  ;)

Like in the posted picture, where "keine Bombe !" can be guessed ...

...besides, the mod contains a folder named "Jugs with German Droptanks" ...

I didn't know captured German Droptanks were used by the Allies ...!

Note that the final "e" in the German word "Bombe" has been erased by the allies, as there is no final "e" in English ...  ;)

Hi Tobias,

thank you very much for the detailed explanation.

Hi Mick,

you're right, yes it is a German drop tank.

Best regards

It's a well known photograph from 1945 (part of a set) showing various captured stockpiles of German drop fuel tanks being filled with napalm and loaded on P47 of the USAF 36th Fighter Group for use against German armored formation.
This picture from the official USAF archive is has for title:
"Captured German Belly Tanks Preparatory To Loading The Containers With Gasoline And A Jell Like Substance Which Will Convert Them Into A New Type Incendiary Bomb For Fighter Bombers Of  9Th AF"

It is one of the 2 documented occasions where Napalm was used in Europe. The other one being the drop by B17s of 110 Gallons us drop tanks filled with napalm on the Atlantic Pocket of Lorient:

BTW drop tanks where sometimes also used as firebombs - for instance the French P47 squadron operating over Italy in 1944-45 used to release their drop tanks over enemy positions then come back and shoot at the impact area make the spilled fuel erupt in flames on the ground.

Could this be implemented in the game? Have drop tanks explode upon hitting the ground after being released?
