Command Fighters in Luftwaffe
« on: March 27, 2022, 07:42:09 AM »

Hello friends!
I found the term `Bf-109G-4y - Command Fighter` along with the Bf-109 variants. However, I searched on several sites and in several languages, and I was not able to find out which modifications were made to the G4, G5, G6 and G14 to receive this denomination. Can someone clarify me, please? :-|

Hello,Kirk!
from the book "Messerschmitt Bf-109 F,G & K series" by Jochen Prien and Peter Rodeike : "From May 1943 some G-6s had received FuG 16y radio equipment. This equipment was intended to allow control of a unit by radio and was therefore installed in the aircraft of unit leaders. The antenna mast for the fuG 16y was installed beneath the fuselage roughly in line with the wing radiators and to the right of the auxiliary fuel tank.G-6 aircraft   so equipped officialy received the seldom-used designation G-6 Y."
