Map objects fix
« on: March 28, 2022, 05:05:53 AM »

Get it here (71MB expands to 293MB):

https://www.mediafire.com/file/nlssa8osmvkj1my/WxTech_Objects_Fix.7z/file

From the included readme file:

Here is a collection of dozens of objects I've done some fixing for over the past few years.

If you already have one or more mod folders containing some number of objects, it might be wise to compare contents, and decide which of the duplicated object you would rather keep. The unwanted version can be disabled by renaming its folder with a preceding "-" symbol, if you don't want to outright delete it.

================================================================

Included here are objects that should already be present in B.A.T., and in an up-to-date 4.12 game. If there should happen to be a couple or few objects here that are not in your game, this will cause no problem (beyond any issue you may already suffer due to their absence.  ;)  )

I do not include here those new objects that I myself made, and which are available as their own mod additions. The emphasis here is on what we could consider as being current 'stock' objects.

Issues such as missing or bad shadows, inappropriate collision boxes and far LOD flickering have been a prime focus of effort. The object types lean heavily toward 'primary' objects one might more commonly find at airfields or military installations, such as hangars, blast pens/revetments, camouflage nets, 'Quonset' huts and sheds. And a fair number of trees are fixed as well.

Note that in most cases I've not dealt with issues for the 'dead' versions (where applicable.) This business involves a lot of work due to the large number of objects needing to be addressed. At least having the 'live' versions look better is perhaps 90% of the way there.

There remain a frightful plethora of objects that warrant treatment. But many those here are pretty commonly utilized, more so on Pacific maps. You will see the improvements, at least if you have a discriminating eye that will have noted the prior deficiencies.  ;)

As always, this work is made available for use by any and all, for any purpose, without restriction.

Hi Glenn, thanks for this. Any changes made to the 'stand in for missing objects'? I already have this.

Yours,

No changes to that stand-in thingie; everyone can ignore it if you have it already. Actually, delete the standalone mod, to reduce your folder count by one.  ;)

It's the one 'object' of mine I decided to leave in. Not thinking it might cause the very question you asked.

A little info on the shadow fixes.

A fair number of objects previously exhibited the strange shadow problem of a portion of it appearing on the up-Sun side. That is, there would be the usual down-Sun shadow, but on the opposite side some extent of the bottom edge of the shadow would be projected toward the Sun. This results from the shadow part of the model being sunk below ground level. Thus causing a weird 'reflection' of that part of the shadow back up on to the ground, some distance toward the Sun.

In some cases, the model had a considerable height but the maker decided to reduce the height by the simple expedient of sinking it. Like taking a 2-story building and making it a 1-story affair by lazily shoving the thing down into the ground. That makes for a huge wrong-side shadow extension.

In a good number of cases the problems were much less awful, but to my critical eye still too annoying to endure.

I have not seen any errors, and I will certainly not notice the effects of the fix. However, I do trust the watchmaker's eye of WxTech.
Thanks for the work and sharing!
