Campanian coast Help Me...
« on: March 29, 2022, 01:10:29 PM »

Gentlemen, as the title suggests, I would like to make changes to an existing map that is well suited to the role, namely Operation Avalanche. And better than this map that is "OnlineItaly" there is nothing. This map at the time already caught my eye precisely because of its characteristics and shapes that are very reminiscent of the coasts of Campania and lower Lazio.
In summary I should just change the names to the cities, but I'm a goat when it comes to mods ...

Am not a modder, but I think you have to go in the folder of the map, and find a file named : texts.txt. It has the names of the cities, with their coordinates. Then, manually edit it, and change (for example) Genova for Formia, etc. Buts as it is a game's default map, I guess you will find this file in one of the various SFS files. Map folder for OnlineItaly is Italy_DF.

Thanks Gaston for the tip, I'll try to extrapolate that damn file from the SFS even if I'm not sure how ... but I'll find it ...;)
The challenge is tough for me, and I'm sure I won't succeed ... ;D :D

I was able to find the file with the names of the cities, now I just want to know how I can view the modified map in the game, I have extracted almost all the fise from the ITALY_DF SFS. but I don't know how to view it in game.
Oh another thing you know how you can add names to some points on the map? since a village is marked on it but it is devoid of any name.

If you are using BAT, there is always the possibility of going to Advanced Mode in the selector and choosing 'Dump'. This will enable dumping of the main map files into your 'Dump' folder in BAT, under maps. These you can then use to modify the map.

Don't forget to turn the 'dump' option off once you've found what you want, otherwise your dump folder will swell to immense proportions.

To add names to a map, you will have to install a separate map-maker version of Il-2 (very easy to do) and add names as if they were objects.

Thanks agracier I did not know about this function in BAT, however I seem to be able to find what I needed now I just have to get to work on it. I just have another question why do I need another separate version of IL2? Can't I check it already on the one I have?

The only sore point of this map is the damned Island of Corsica which has nothing to do with the Gulf of Salerno...can it be removed?  ;D :D

Here's more or less what I would like to do ....

And here is more or less what the final product should be, the only sore point as already said before that fucking corsica that I would like to remove but it is placed there so at random ... ;D

Okay Stefano,

I will hold off my work on the map if you are going to solve this yourself.
You seem to be travelling down the right paths.
Good Luck.

The use a map-maker version of Il-2, you have to modify and edit a core file, (the bldconf.ini file if I am not mistaken).

I suppose you could go back and forth and reedit the file between a map-maker version and the game version each time, but I bet that sooner or later you'll do something wrong and end up with both versions unworkable. Better to simply have a separate version for each. Even if you have insufficient space on a machine, you can always run either version from an external hard drive.

Besides, with a map-maker, you don't need any extra mods or new aircraft or effects. It can be a lean version.

I will see what I can do Kopfdorfer, if I can otherwise I will leave it alone, also because what agracier told me about a new installation of Il2, to test the map has blown me away. I have verified that unfortunately I cannot do it since the hard disk is already almost full and a new installation of Il2 would go beyond the limit of the disk ...
