G'day wolf44

I do my skins in Photoshop but I use Gimp for anything that requires TGA's.

I don't think you should be changing to index, Bright does that I think.
In Photoshop I work in RGB then save as BMP then use Bright, or simply use Bright Photoshop plugin.

Morning genX,

I for one have to say since Photoshop 2020 had it's upgrade the Indexed colour selection doesn't allow you to save the skins in .BMP format which yes I thought was annoying but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. With the skins I'm making currently and because of the big help from Mike (Storebror) he introduced me to Bright... I've never looked back since.

As a skinner like yourself mate, it's a better solution to overcome the deficiencies of the changes to Ps.... which originally I thought was Bs... but there we go!

A good shoutout to this program though... Bright has alleviated detail limitation issues and come out with everything I added... it was also proven with some Hunters I was making but I shelved them until a solution was found.

As they say... alternatives are always present.. you just need to find them, either by yourself or with help ;D

All the best,
BlackAce

Hello genXgamer!
Considering that all the skins made so far by me are of low quality, only I use them :-). Next time I'll try to see if Bright is also indexed. Thank you for the advice!

The latest skin creation. It's better done but still far from the skins of those who post them for download.

All the best!

Distortion occurs after indexing (256) and "export as"

So I guess you went to Image/Mode and changed it to Indexed?

I would not do that, because it greatly reduces the number of colours you can use, and causes those distortions as you noticed.

I usually just draw my skin in default RGB mode (full colour), then export to .bmp with the following settings:

This will create a 3MB skin, which I then use Bright to reduce to 1MB.
I'm not sure how Bright does it's magic, but to my eyes the resulting skin looks just like the 3MB one, without any colour loss!
(it's a good idea to back up the original 3MB skin so you can compare it with the 1MB)

By the way, that is a very nice skin you made :)

Hello to everyone!
I built the skin according to your advice. The colors are stable, no more distortion, the size is ok. In general, the initial problems have been solved. Thank you very much for your advice and help. Of course I still have a lot of questions. But I know it takes a lot of skins to make it. I have all the admiration for skinners because now I know how much work there is for a skin.

All the best! The  Force be with you!

Hello, everyone! I have made little progress (although it is big progress for me) so let me brag  ;D

I am very happy that I finally managed to understand the process, thanks to you, for the advice and because I experienced several ways. Of course there are many more to finish. But basically ... I get it.

All the best!

Thank you, glibble! I I realized that I made the letters too big. I corrected them later.
