Thanks to both of you! I tried to find an A to Z tutorial on Youtube. I only found fragments. They used to be from the simmer, or something like that, but they can't be found anymore.Eventually I will succeed. I hope.

All the best !

I am assuming you mean numbers or letters that were stenciled on aircraft? If so, then you would have to go looking for a font that is made to look like it was a stenciled letter style. This is very easy to do, just search for free fonts (there are literally thousands and thousands available for free) and then go looking for a stenciled style. On free font sites, the fonts are usually split up by type making it easy to find them.

Then, once you have installed the stencil fonts you need, you can add a layer of text to the template you're working on.

Hello ,agracier! Yes letters or numbers and the small stencils with warnings, specification (octane triangle)etc. After the paint job this small stencils are to covert by colours and is not so visible anymore. But if it's not normal for them to be covered in paint, it means I'm wrong somewhere or I'm not doing something in the skinning process. I have free fonts, but I dont know the process to add on template . The process to add letters, symboles and other markings to the skin. This is one of the many questions about skinning (I mean my weak knowledge in skinning). A step by step guide in skinning aircrafts. Many valuable tutorials are no longer to be found. I saw references to video tutorials that would have interested me but they no longer exist. There are tutorials on Youtube, but there are stages in skinning that they skipped.I managed to improve the technique a bit, but it still doesn't look like what real skinners do.

Thank you,agracier!
All the best!

When you add numbers or small markings to your template, make sure that the numbers/markings are on a layer above the paint layers, but under the rivet/lines and weathering/scratching/aging layers ...

Hello,everyone!
I would need help, because I can't finish an acceptable skin. The paint appears washed out. I would very much like someone to explain to me how I start, how I work and how I finish and save in Gimp. I watched several tutorials, but most are for photoshop. When painting the camouflage, when I paint RLM71 over RLM02 the shade changes to even darker. I don't think it's normal. At first I finished skins at the size of 1 MB, now I get 3 MB and I don't know how to bring them back to 1 MB. Did everyone start so chaotic? o_O

I wish you all a beautiful spring!

One way to lower the file size is to limit the image bit number, you can do that when saving the image, in paint.net at least, but I imagine it shouldnt be too different in other programs. It does limit the total color number though.

Hello Wolf44,

I'm not a skin expert, but I try to answer your questions here:

The paint appears washed out.
Do you mean you want it to be washed out? Or you want it to appear more colourful?
Typically I fade a colour by adding a "light" overlay on top of the base colour. You can try drawing some white streaks with a brush tool, then blur it and adjust the opacity.

Could you give more detail about this problem? Maybe a screen shot of how you're doing it?
My guess is your layer opacity or layer blend mode is incorrect.
For example, if I want to paint a brown splinter pattern over the green base, I make sure the Fill tool's opacity is 100%, and the layer I'm drawing on is also 100% opacity:

Also, for the layer you're drawing on, make sure the Mode is "Normal"

If you use other modes like "Multiply" for example, the colour will turn darker.

Sounds like you need a tool called "Bright". Please check out Beebop's excellent post here:

Half way down his post he mentions Bright and provides the links for download.

Good luck!

Hello,glibble!
When I say "The paint appears washed out" I was thinking:the paint has spots, stains as if it were watercolor. I don`t wnat look like that :-) ,of course,is not normal. I`m not sure what I am not doing or doing wrong. I show you how I work on the gimp, if you notice that something is wrong, point it out. Please!

I was referring to this color distortion.

Distortion occurs after indexing (256) and "export as"
