Don't forget Eagle Rays and Salmon for our streams.

Don't forget Eagle Rays and Salmon for our streams.
As much as I love eagle rays, I've seen FAR more manta rays (that tend to stick to the surface) with drones over Mexican water. Eagle rays tend to dive just a tad deeper, hence slightly less visible. Beside, several Mobula spp. tend to be quite gregarious, which makes them even more visible.

Glad you mentioned salmons in the streams. While sea-run salmons are hard to spot in the murky northern seas, salmons on spawning runs are quite flashy and are often targeted by anglers visually.

It's ready to go! Please check out the first post to download.
Like I said, I use mostly tropical marine life, as tropical water tend to be clearer.
Whereas in the North Atlantic you can barely see past 3 feet down.

Pelagic fish (that stay near the surface) are more visible than benthic (stay near the bottom) ones. Fish that hang around reefs are also hard to see from a distance due to poor contrast with background. Also, I tend to choose animals with global distribution, so you can put it in almost any map.
So here are my choices:

Bait fish: representing scads (Selar, Trachurus, or Decaterus spp. of family Carangidae), but can also represent sardines or herrings if you want to use them in cold water.
Distribution of Decapterus macarellus

When attacked, they tend to form bait balls.

Distribution of Selar crumenophthalmus

Next, large shallow water fish, such as bonefish, tarpon, or ladyfish.

They're visually targeted by anglers.
Being more coastal in habitat, no single species of this group has a global distribution. Collectively, however, they cover much of the world's oceans.

Now my favorite:
Tunas are usually found well offshore, so it would be a real challenge to find (and strafe) them in the featureless oceans.

Distribution of Thunnus albacares

To be continued..

Nice work ! Thanks !

Beware of the inconsistency of the collision box names!
"c1" in the mesh but "live1" in the mono.sim!

Thanks, but after testing them both with ships and aerial weapons, I don't think it affects the objects' functionality in any tangible way.

Swordfish:

There're many species of billfish (marlin & sailfish), but I chose swordfish (Xiphias gladius) due to its near-global distribution.

It's a fish that can be targeted visually, usually with harpoon (particularly in Italy & Greece).

So that makes it a good candidate for flight sim.

Now what we've been waiting for: SHARK!

Oceanic whitetip: a notorious man-eater. Being highly pelagic, most of its victims perished out of sight, hence are unaccounted for. Chances are, a good many shipwreck victims are killed by oceanic whitetip, making it far more dangerous than great white or tiger shark.

It's believed that hundreds of men from USS Indianapolis were killed by oceanic whitetip.

Distribution of Carcharhinus longimanus

Note: this shark is too pelagic, I might add a smaller coastal shark to adorn the islands in the future.

Manta ray:

I chose manta ray instead of others, because it's the one mostly likely to stay near the surface, and the habit of some species to form large schools (at least in Mexico).

Distribution of Mobula thurstoni

Sea turtle:
At least in Mexico, these are the most easily observed marine creatures from the surface.

Distribution of Lepidochelys olivacea

Dolphin, probably the most widespread and visible marine mammal.

Distribution of Tursiops truncatus

Salmon: due to the turbidity of northern seas, sea-run salmons are not easily visible. However, due to their preference for cold, clear streams during spawning runs, and their schooling habit, they're among the most visible of freshwater fish.

Sorry for choosing the Pacific salmon, but these are the only salmons I've ever caught! I've only fished for salmon on the West Coast of the US.
Distribution of Oncorhynchus nerka: clearly it's only relevant for the Aleutian map.

I may add the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) for other more relevant maps in the future.

Still accepting request for fish!
But please be sensible, you'll never see a snakehead fish in the murky Mekong Delta.

Note for installation:
As you've probably noticed from my static.ini entries, the intention was to drop the content in some pre-existing object pack with the following folder arrangement: 3do > Buildings > Troops > animals. However, you're more than welcome to create your own independent folder with the afore-mentioned arrangement.
I've also included a few entries to "elevate" some stock objects, mainly for the following visual effects.
Radio & operator for Henderson tower.

Elevate radar that sits on top of bunker.

Added Atlantic salmon to the list, please go to the first post to download.

This is THE salmon, as befitting of Europe, not that American usurper from the "lesser" (Pacific) ocean.
It's natura distribution is also far more relevant to combat activities of WWII.

I've henceforth demoted the American impostor to pac_salmon.
Note: I had to "thin out" the school, as Atlantic salmon is nowhere nearly as abundant as its Pacific cousins. Don't know that's the case back in the 1940s though
