Here the best and up to date:

You will fly online, take this (and fly with the Clowns):

By the way, my more than twelve years old, high modded v4.09 & UP 2.1 & Tigers soundmod still exists on many of my HDD's/ SSD's and is still flown by me from time to time.

Thanks Gabriel  ;)

Best regards and good luck Mr. MR

I have 4.14 but I want to know which version or mod is best.

The sim has been around now for twenty years or so and has gone through so many changes it is hard to say exactly what is best because we all have particular favourites. ;)

It depends what you want, again, everyone will have their own personal preference.

The current major mod pack here is B.A.T., based originally on the 4.12.2 version but now with many added updates that most would say actually supersedes anything before or likely to appear.  It includes all the stock contents up to 4.12 and much of the further community made aircraft, vehicles et al, as well as much later stuff modified from later official patches. 8)

Most of the modded content here at the site effectively stopped at 4.12, folks got fed up with constantly updating/backdating their creations as the official developers released further content so that is where we are, 4.12 essentially.

Other sites have made files available that will allow you to modify your 4.14 version but you would then need to find stuff that had been updated accordingly, some stuff works out of the box, some not, it would get very frustrating testing everything as you add it.

If you prefer to use the stock game then 4.14 is so far the latest version but if you want to mod it then stick to 4.12, or 4.09 and 4.10, these have been the most popular I think and had various packs built around them.

For a newcomer it is difficult for any of us to give you a definitive answer, but if you can be bothered to download then B.A.T has most everything.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Wasn't there a post about the different types of players long time ago?
Namely Imperialists vs Rebels vs Privateers?
I can't seem to find that thread ;)

I used to be a Rebel (4.09), but I switch to 4.12 when BAT came out :P

I use mostly 4.13 with UP but I have another install in my D: drive that I will use for BAT.

I am kinda new to flight sims, having played for like four to maybe eight years. Usually play stuff like IL-2, WT, KSP and a few small stuff.

The only significant versions that are unmentioned are:
1)  YPack , which is a modded (and modable) version of 4.13.
Some nice ideas and developments here , at least for 4.13.
(~link to site which is requiring registration to be viewed, removed~. CirX)
2) IES Pack which is a modded game for online play that has a small but dedicated community for
persistent online campaigns. The most significant feature is that detailed startup procedures including
warm ups are enabled for all flyable aircraft.
This mod and users are primarily French and I found ( I understand some French , but am definitely
NOT fluent ) the interface to be challenging. The Guys are nice and really went out of the way to help me get
going , but my French just wasn't up to the test , sadly , or I might still be flying with them.

3) VP Mod built on Version 4.12 WW2 based modset with nicely enhanced mapset , and well organized planeset ,
ships , vehicles , artillery , stationaries , and objects.
Nice pack for mission builders focused on WW2.
