Betty AWAcs what-if version
« on: May 08, 2022, 05:23:21 PM »

Since someone did the arado 234 with a radar dome, thought about the betty being used as an interim solution for the Japanese navy till the g10 Rita became operational as a awacs. Just needs a smaller dome though. The dome would have to be placed after the top gun blister.

Ooh, I do like the what-if niche. This idea in particular would work well in my own alt-history scenario where Japan remains a military power in a very different Cold War.

I could see this working with early "proto-AWACS" aircraft like with the radar configurations mounted on some Wellington bombers.

Or it could even branch a bit further after WWII with inspiration from early dedicated AWACS aircraft like the Lockheed EC-121.

AWACS seaplanes also seem fitting for Cold War Japan. Maybe something similar could be slapped together with the H8K.
