Data based files for more simple tweaking and modding
« on: June 06, 2022, 04:26:49 PM »

Hello everyone,

I am making a request for data driven files read by Java for Il-2 1946 engine.  This will make tweaking and modding much simpler and user friendly for modders.  I believe this will attract even more modders to SAS 1946 and eventually will take into next steps into Java modding if they decide to.

Wxtech did this with his effect pack by including text files where java read from and this made it much easier to mod the specific part of effects.

This may take a lot of work but is worth it at the end.  Imagine if more modders can share the .ini or text files that updates any part of BAT.

Just a suggestions.  I would like to see what the community think about this.

Cheers!

Any mod which involves game resources like .msh, .eff, .mat, etc., necessarily MUST include such files in order to be read and hence take priority over the already existing stock resources. If not already in ASCII format, modders must convert from the game format in order to do any editing. And they are typically supplied in ASCII format in the mod (because the game can read this, too.)

I did nothing out of the ordinary. Except perhaps to include a number of 'readme' files scattered about, by which to outline what does what, and to include Java files so that other modders can see what I did on that front.

I hope I'm not misreading you.  ;)

Like the idea because from thirdwire series, air inis and other dtata files can be opened in notepad or word and edited. you can evenc reate new variants of planes or change the loadouts.

Thank you for the comments.  What I am requesting is beyond effects editing by text, by modding aircraft, weapons, and literally everything else through .ini editing, similar to Thirdwire series simulations.

This is what I love the most about Thirdwire series simulation for PC too!  I am hoping that IL-2 1946 would become like that, hence made this requests.
