Problem with new Logitech throttle quadrant
« on: August 10, 2022, 02:05:37 PM »

After all this time, I've encountered a situation I've never had to confront, and I'm hoping that this might be the appropriate category for a discussion of the problem. I've been using a Logitech Force 3D Pro joystick since about 2009. It's worked perfectly well the entire time, but I finally got tired of the reach-across for the throttle control, and a few weeks ago I purchased a new Logitech G Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant to use in conjunction with my faithful old joystick. I was able to download and install the appropriate driver for the quadrant, but that's where Logitech's instructions end. My PC and my Il-2 4.15 and BAT installations see the new controller as well as the joystick, but I simply cannot figure out how to assign the quadrant axes to the desired functions: throttle, flaps, and radiator controls.

Attached are a pair of screenies showing the initial "Programming" windows for the quadrant. (I should note that the quadrant was not plugged in when I took these shots.) I have no idea what some of the terms - "Shiftstate," "Fallback," and "Shift Command," to name three - in the grid views mean, and Logitech offers no tutorials or other instructions. Logitech Support could only suggest that I consult with Il-2 users to learn how to use their product with various iterations of Il-2. I also fly Great Battles, but I haven't tried the quadrant with GB yet.

If this enquiry is in the wrong category, could an admin please shift it to the correct category? Meanwhile, any assistance  with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Functions like flaps and undercarriage are push button operated in IL2. I cannot comment on Great Battles coz I never used it. The only way to map functions like those to a slider type of control is with conversion program of sorts. I use freeware called 'joy to key'. Joy to key allows one to assign a character from the keyboard to positions at each end of the slider control, so that moving the slider simulates the function of pushing that character on the keyboard.

For the supported HOTAS assignments such as throttle, in Il-2's Cntrols screen click on the throttle field and then move the desired axis. If the in-game throttle change is opposite of what you want, simply click the throttle field again and nudge the axis in the opposite direction from before.

As to programming any buttons or switches, there must be a YT video covering this...

And keep in mind Il-2's four controller limit on discrete devices.

This looks just like the old Saitek SST programming software, not too surprising since Logitech bought them out!

Google has both manuals and YT vids to help you along...

Thank you all, wern, WxTech, and pied. I have downloaded "Joy to Key," but I'm hesitant about installing this. I broached the subject with the local Geek Squad. They're willing to send someone over to see what if anything they can do to help, but I'll give it a few more to see if further web searches yield a video or manual showing the same grid view as in the screenie above. The only videos I've found so far feature  older programming formats, and of course Logitech's and Saitek's manuals have no information specific to the inputs system in either the "stock" Il-2 or BAT. I did, however, find a video about GB which may be helpful, though the video maker was using CH hardware:
