P47 take off - tail wheel
« on: August 28, 2022, 03:49:42 PM »

Good evening dear gentleman. I rarely play BAT and decided to give it a go. I´m trying a set of missions of WaW single, a pack of ground attacks flying the P-47 D25 with bubble canopy. The action takes place at italy. Unfortunately i´m unable to take off, the plane swerves to the left due to the tail wheel being locked to the right. My only option is to take off with the auto pilot, something i never do usually.

Perhaps the catch is simple but i couldn´t find it.

Many thanks

Yes, there’s a key bind in the controls section for the tail wheel lock.

Thanks for your answer . Even though pressing that key i´m unable to unlock it, it remains stuck turned to the right. I mean when the mission isl oaded and you re ready to go. Only the AI manage to do it.

Just a crazy thought: connect a second button/key to that same setting.
Then try the new second key.
It might be that your key is already connected to (for example) a Windows function and does not work in the game.
So just add a second key and try that second key.

I fly latest BAT (patched) and have no P-47 D25? Do have a D27 bubble canopy and tail wheel works (may take a while to lock in on bumpy ground).
If the tail wheel is locked to the right then it should swerve to the right?
Did a quick test flight (QMB Med_Malta_42), takeoff no problem, P-47's have (with full realism) a lot of engine torque (to the left), accelerate carefully with a lot of rudder and tail wheel lock.
good luck pilot.

P.S. Which exact mission are you flying?

Dear Sirs you solved my problem! I must press locked and unlock to release that tail wheel and counter with the left brake to avoid swerve to left.
Many thanks!

I have a channel on YT dedicated to flight sims, 1946 in particular. The P-47 will be the next beast to try out!

Once again thank you!
