Changing wheel pants back and forth? Anyone remember how?
« on: September 12, 2022, 11:49:46 PM »

In the stock game (would work in mods too) Oleg Maddox and gang made it so you could change some setting somewhere to put pants on or off again in some planes like the Fokker D.XX1 and other planes.

Just he other day I was attacking a flight of I-15 M-22s and one of them had the wheel pants on and the rest off, out of four enemies. So that was pretty cool. I also think this same method can attach or detach skis too in some cases.

But I don't have any recollection at all as to how to make this change and can't find any old stock game PDF file on how to do this. I'm sure many of you will know how to do this. So thanks in advance!!

choosing the season of the year is the key to get the skis on/off (if you have snow then you have skis). I thought the same was true for wheel pants but you present a situation where only one on four planes had these pants on - but may be it's because they are AI.

The season does indeed matter to ski capable aircraft but wheel pants could be changed at any time and still can be. I just don't remember how to do it. I used to do this all the time, back in the day. And the season had nothing to do with this. Also you could change it for AI planes or your own aircraft at any time, any season. But thanks for your reply anyway!!

Found this using the search for spats on the forum:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,54141.msg589026.html#msg589026
and this
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1367.msg555983.html#msg555983

Go to your I-15 bis skins folder and look for "customization.ini" archive.
You can activate the wheelspats for every skin you want.
It works only when flying (you don´t see them in QMB screen)

In Practice:
1. Look for  "customization.ini" file inside of PaintSchemes\Skins\I-15bis folder.  Keep it open.
2. Clear skin cache at PaintSchemes\Cache.
3. Start the game, fly the I-15 bis in a Quick Mission with the skin that you like.
4. While you are inflight press alt-tab back to Windows.
5. In PaintSchemes\Cache there must be a new folder named with numbers (i.e. : -2776392019981044784). This is the checksum.
6. Copy and paste this under the section tag [WheelSpats] in "customization.ini" file. I.e.:

  [WheelSpats]
-1939074312722165645
-2776392019981044784

7. That´s all. Every time that you fly with the chooen skin you will see the wheelspats in the plane.

There are other planes that you can customize:
I-153M62
I-153M63
I-16type6
I-16type6_Skis
I-16type29
I-16type28
I-16type24
Hs-129B-2
DXXI_SARJA3_LATE
DXXI_SARJA3_EARLY
C.C.C.

Excellent, thank you. There also was a much simpler way to do the same thing and it was in one of the stock readme pdf files, when they added a patch or new version. It was straight from Oleg Maddox. But I can't find that readme any more.

Anyone have copies of all of the patch readmes that have come out since the old IL2 game first came out? I thank DreamK for suggesting that method but there is a far less technical way of accomplishing this and it was in a patch readme back in the day. I decided not to try the convoluted and superfluous way DreamK suggested because I'm not a software programmer for crying out loud. There for sure is a normal way to do this without all the extreme fuss. I used to do it all the time but just can't remember the very simple was to do it without messing with PC code. I think DreamK must be a software engineer. He did try to help which many don't, so kudos to him. Just not what I was looking for.
