Not sure I can get a copy of this going as I don't have and 1946 CD/DVD disks anymore. But aside from some newer planes and assorted content, would this be much better than my old DBW 1.71? Seems like the graphics and maps would be similar in quality, as would both the flight models and damage models. Only room for so much improvement and that's it.

Secondarily, would I be able to use most of the planes that I have in DBW? Would most of them already be there or would I be able to transfers a lot of them from DBW to BAT? I have so many extra planes that I downloaded and installed in DBW that I'd hate to give any up. Of course I could still use my DBW as it still runs nicely, and have BAT at the same time. In DBW and UP, you could put a few files in, add a plane to the Air.ini and the weapons and planes file and the plane would appear, ready to fly. Is this like that or is the content frozen and can't be added to?

I do happen to have a paid for newer version of stock 4.13.3m that I downloaded from GOG or one of those places. I think this was actually the last official version of the old IL2, but I hate it. Could I down/backward patch that??

As a slight aside, one thing I hate about this 4.12.3m is the rookie AI are like ace used to be and ace is like hyper ace. If a bandit gets on your tail, their shooting can't be avoided. It's all over, you might as well bail. So I think that was a big purposeful F--- you from the Daidalos team (or however you spell that). You know, the guys that took over after Oleg Maddox sold out of the series and kept patching.

Hello! Get the "unpatcher" and roll back to 4.12.2 and get BAT, with the other modules. (BAT Redcore plus Blue Edge", plus patches)
One of which is "Dawn Of Flight", and you'll see better versions of those planes you are trying to hang onto.

And Team D has patched the "official" version up to 4.15 now, but BAT kicks its butt all over the place.

Just follow the instructions on the BAT section of the site, and you won't be sorry. DBW is a pretty much outdated pack now.

If Tsisqua's advise hasn't helped you yet, I would suggest that you go to "Good Old Games" and get the copy of IL-2 there.  The last time I looked it was $10.  They include two versions.  4.10m and 4.13m.  You can either install from GOG's installer or download the files, save to your computer and install it even without internet access.  This is how I got going with BAT earlier this year.  The 4.10m version from GOG works like a charm with all of the BAT add-on's provided by SAS.  No unpatcher was needed. Good luck, I am having all sorts of fun with the quality and depth of that the BAT mods add to the original IL-2.  It is a fun ride.  I hope this helps.

If a Steam version is fine, you can get it for a little bit cheaper at Fanatical for a little bit less. The Steam page mentions that they provide version 4.12.2.

Where in the heck would a person get this 4.15 official version? I'd like to try it totally aside from this BAT add-on. Just out of curiosity.

Ignore previous post, I found all the patches at Mission4today. And I'll have to patch my 4.12.3 a few times to get to 4.15

[/quote]I had to chuckle at this a bit since BAT and all the later mods (of original IL2-1946) are also outdated!! DBW and UP were based on the 4.09-4.10 patches, which actually had some better behaviors in some ways. I think the later DT patches went overboard on overheating engines a bit. Although DBW had some of this too, I just flew a late model P-47 in DBW and once the engine overheated, it was near impossible to cool it down and not get shot down from lowering your speed way too much. So there is some of this stupidity in DBW too. I practically had to chop the throttle all the way for a good bit!! And the AI apparently never overheat. Better to have been born and AI pilot, but then I'd be a bunch of 1s and 0s!! 

And in later DT patches (which BAT is based on) the AI is too good if they get behind you and literally can't miss even at high deflections. There is no escape, at least for me. I never said I was a great simulator ace, did I? I'm not all that good and I'm an old man now!! Also anything newer like BAT is based on the same graphics, DM and other aspects so it can't be too much better. So in some ways DBW might actually be better. I'm still interested in BAT but let's face it, it's also old technology.

I never knew this and it's awesome! I don't know if this is clearly stated anywhere, but it should be on the Newbie and DL posts imo Great stuff!!
