BAT Quick Missions naming conventions
« on: September 17, 2022, 09:44:26 AM »

I usually do not fly Quick Missions, but over the years I have created some QMB sets for a few new maps as they came out. I think I might as well make them public. They are all written and tested in BAT only.

I notice that most of the QMB missions in BAT have names prefixed with BAT_. Should I use that prefix in mine or is that designation reserved for Stock BAT QMB missions?

A QMB mission must have at its beginning the identical name of the folder in which it resides. You can name the folder however you please, as long as any missions cotrained within have the same at their beginning.

Yes, I have got that. These are tested and working. Some go back years, like Uzin's Poland and Yugoslavia.

I am just concerned that the BAT_ prefix is intended to signal to users that the mission set is stock/standard BAT issue. If so I will use something else. I will keep the BAT_ convention if it is just intended to mean "works with BAT."

Or maybe I am over-thinking the whole thing and should just get on with it.

BTW, your New Georgia is one of the sets in the hopper.

My own New Georgia QMB folder is named "PAC_NewGeorgia". And a few other Pacific map based sets start with the same "PAC_", such as for for GreenHell, Solomons, etc. This was done so as to keep those maps I use most grouped in a theme when the selection drop-down list comes up.

G'day WxTech

Can you share with me your Green Hell missions?

I normally only use the QMB to view skins and to test new aircraft but would like these missions all the same.

Here are my few QMB Green Hell missions. Nothing exciting! Just 2 missions over Lae and 2 missions over Salamaua (one each for Red and Blue).

Very good idea vonofterdingen, I support 100%.
I often fly in QMB missions, of course it is about the latest B.A.T

I wish you good luck in your work on this project.... And in life in general.  ]thumright[

This is for WxTech

Your Green Hell missions will not work.

The folder, mission and map used need _43 added.
Then the mission names are written wrong.

There have been three releases of this map I know of. The first is the one I used until very recently, having expended no small effort with forest cover adjustment.

The second release altered a number of airfield textures to reflect a later period of the war. But the names remained the same, meaning I had to choose one or the other, Unless I created versions of these altered textures having different names, and swap out these in the unlocked FMB.

The latest version, which has the '44 extension of larger area, I did decide to adopt, meaning I've 'retired' for now my long-used first version.

I kept the map folder the same as from the first, hence the now incompatible naming.

Clearly, if one's map folder is named "Green_Hell_43", each .mis must contain:

[MAIN]
  MAP Green_Hell_43/load.ini

That's it. Nothing else needs to be altered. The QuickQMBPro folder can be named whatever you choose, as long as the missions contained therein have their names start with the same text string. For example:

Missions/QuickQMBPro/StupidGlennGreenHell/StupidGlennGreenHellBlueNone_Dunce.mis

 :D

Cheers!
Stupid Glenn

G'day Glenn

Here's a question for you, can the mission have _Lae or _Salamaua at the end of the mission name?

Doesn't it have to be written something like RedNone00 or the letters N,A and D added?

After the first part of the mission name, always mirroring the folder name, comes the Army, that being Red or Blue.

Then comes the mission type (Strike, Scramble, Armor, Airfield, etc.)

If of mission type None, one can have the optional N, A or D.

Numbers are optional.

Then you can have whatever optional text you like, that optional text being just like the optional numbers.

There can be no space characters.
