What’s the horde’s response?
« on: October 07, 2022, 12:15:29 PM »

Ok as I’m building different campaigns, I would like to see what people would rather have. Do you like having immersion by writing like a journal style with some historical events on the mission screen. Or do just like what the current mission will be without all the reading?
The reason I ask, it takes a fair amount of time to write (at least for me) to fully get into the character.
What says you all?

Personally I enjoy more wordy briefings, as it helps immerse me in the character I'm playing in a given campaign, but I'm aware that I might be an exception in that regard.

Bare-bones works alright if you either:
1. Aren't too bothered about any details, just like the flying/combat, or
2. Like filling in the blanks with your own imagination.

Like I said before, wordiness can be a fun part of it, but if you feel it's needlessly time-consuming I'd get why you'd omit it.

Oh I don’t mind the writing at all. But if no one else is into it…. I actually enjoy doing that.

I like detailed briefings with historical events and tech stuff, where it makes sense. If author enjoys writing, he could also add a separate pdf or text file.

I guess there are different strokes for different folks.

When writing the briefings I try to incorporate any personal events relevant to the squadron involved. I try to keep as near historical and chronological flow as the sim allows. Obviously, some compromises are made due to the programme and content limitations. I enjoy writing them and if anyone would like some element added that Von and I have ommitted let us know.

It would be more immersive if we could say start out with a named group of pilots as the original Il2 displayed. However, the briefings could never match the events unless you left out the words and just entered the stats whch is okay but not 'human' if you know what I mean.
