will old missions work on this map? I mean are all the old airpots in the same places so least the tweaking will be easy? This is one my favorites so I have some nice missions and QMB set

I made no changes to the placement of any airfields or objects. This is just a terrain re-work, on map_h and the textures.

No, only two Airfields (Nielson and Del Carmen) have still there old position, the other were renewed or at least repositioned!

Edit: The first version of this map is out, download see first post!

The original Map_H is really flat compared to reality.  Getting real DEMs would make this more realistic.

dlv_philippines is a nice map and representation of the layout of the PI, but the version in HSFX 7.0.3 seems to be around ~48% distance and ~40% by heights.   Would it be possible to expand it to say 75% in distance and heights by just editing the .tga's and other files?

(In testing planes I find plane ranges are about 75% of book ranges)

I've tried out the Lonestar67 rework, and WxTech repaint of the dlv_philippines map and it adds some nice stuff.   Lonestar67 adding the "1944" airfields are a great touch as I am trying to do Leyte Gulf missions, and the new mini-map is lovely.

Following on from WxTech I also try a repaint with modded heightmap and textures with the mountains setup, the mountains are now 58% of true heights.   Which is 66% greater than dlv was.  My textures (load.ini can be swapped with Lonestar67 or WxTech for whichever you prefer).

I have the files here if you want to try, goes into ...\maps\dlv_Philippines41_44

Approaching Leyte Island invasion beach, by Dulag AF.

I'll probably try a brute force mod of this map with an enlarged Leyte region later  ]banghead[

I measured the dlv_Philippines map more accurately between major towns and it is 44%. **correction**

My latest new height map is above, the global height changes are now about ~20% less than reality to suit reduced scale of this map, I worked out how to generate the "lost" lowlands from over aggressive cutting of the original height map as you can see by gentle slope up to hills.

The Thing is, IL2 has a limited map size! If you have exceeded the 1000 km mark, you can no longer set any waypoints  above this Distance (regardless of whether for planes, ships or vehicles).
The Philippines have a length of about 1530 km in real! She would easily exceed this mark and would be one third unusable in IL2.
That's why the Map was scaled down!

It is a big area, the southern island of Mindanao is not really needed except for niche missions.  Even at 75% its hard to fit in all Luzon and Leyte for a 41-45 map.  The middle picture 75% would be perfect for a 1944-45 campaign, I may try making it from dlv's, mostly just a rescale, only big task would be re-siting all objects and AF's?

I keep redoing map_h until I get the peaks looking right, a bit sharper.  I will work on the mapping map_t distribution a bit more with bare patch more on hill tops than hill sides, keeping same defines as yours.

Sorry Taly , read some history.

The Mindanao Battle of 1941-42 began on Dec 20 , 1941 and lasted until 8 May 1942.
Granted the US and Philipinos had very little left in terms of Air support for the later stages of this campaign ,
but it poses interesting scenarios for transports and recon on the Allied side , and all facets of an air campaign
from the Japanese side.

In terms of the Battle for Mindanao in the Allied recapture of the Philippine Islands ,
the Battle for Mindanao ran from 10 March to 15 August 1945.

I am admittedly no expert in this area , but the most rudimentary poking around on the internet
( doesn't deserve to be called research so far ) indicates that contrary to your rather flippant
statement "is not really needed except for niche missions" , Mindanao was key to the Allied recapture
of the entire Philippine Island chain.

taly01,
I just looked at the map_h.tga you prepared, with your aim of reclaiming the 'lost' lowlands that got clipped down to sea level. Your quick expedient of applying a very soft blur introduces the problem of many areas around the coastlines having the sea surface rising to above seal level starting at times a considerable distance from the shoreline. You would need to use map_c.tga to clip away the areas of water so that the sea everywhere remains at zero height, with a little margin to be sure that no coastline oddities slip through.
