Background and History by Lars

This campaign started out as one of our 20 to 30 mission campaigns flying the Hawker Typhoon. However, as I read more about the Rhodesian contribution to the air war I decided to extend this as a tribute to that country’s efforts towards victory. All in all, there were three fighting squadrons raised in the name of Rhodesia (currently known as Zimbabwe) that flew throughout the war. There were also at least 9 major training bases in the homeland that provided a steady supply of aircrew to the RAF throughout the conflict. Thousands of young airmen from all over the Commonwealth passed through these bases.

•   237 Rhodesia Fighter Squadron that flew in East Africa, North Africa and Italy equipped with Hardy and Audax, Gladiator, Hurricane, and Spitfire fighters.
•   44 Rhodesia Bomber Squadron that flew Hampden and Lancaster bombers in Europe
•   266 Rhodesia Fighter Squadron that flew Spitfire and Typhoon fighters in Europe.

In this campaign of 80 missions you will fly the Spitfires mark 1, 2a, 2b, Vb, and the Typhoon 1b of three different models. The squadron was involved in Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain, cross channel attacks, Dieppe, hit and run raiders, anti-doodlebug patrols, and D-Day. They were only the second unit to receive Typhoons which initially were used to fight the hit and run raiders along the English coast then switched to a fighter-bomber role in the last year of the war, using bombs and rockets. Effectively, it will be a fighter campaign from June 1940 using Code UO then a fighter-bomber campaign until May 1945 using Code ZH. During the latter the squadron will still claim nearly 30 enemy aircraft to add to their earlier victories.

Installation
This campaign was written and tested using the SAS BAT Mod Pack, available here at SAS.

The campaign may work on other modded systems, but the campaign uses Command and Control objects and Triggers, so many mission features would be lost or unworkable.

Extract the zip file to a temporary directory.
•   Copy the decompressed Missions folder and the decompressed PaintSchemes folder to your IL-2 1946 root folder.
•   In the New Pilot Career page, choose RAF in the Air Force selection drop-down. Choose The Stabber of the Skies, 'Hlabezulu' - 266 Rhodesian Fighter Squadron RAF in the Career drop-down.
•   We recommend turning off No Instant Success for this campaign.
•   The campaign is designed to be compatible with any rank selection.

Credits
Many thanks to the BAT team for developing, maintaining, and improving the BAT Modpack. This campaign uses Command and Control and Trigger functions that were added to BAT.

Kopfdorfer created all of the Typhoon skins in this campaign. Many thanks to him for helping us with this project.

As usual, we made extensive use of Kurfurst’s mission templates that are available at M4T.

Thanks guys

Always interested in Commonwealth campaigns and missions, especially fighter ones.
Look forward to your next project which Lars said will be a RAAF campaign, just hope it won't be the same one I'm currently working on.

cheers genXgamer.

We are currently halfway through creating a Whirlwind campaign, then will look into a 1939 to 1945 Aussie career which will take the pilot through several units, aircraft types and theatres. This differs from our previous format which usually covers one squadron.

Someone had a problem with the first mission. Von and I use different pcs to test to help cover the range of systems and it worked on both. Could those of you who have downloaded please confirm the campaign has launched okay. It may just be a mod conflict on the receiver's set up.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we did creating it for you.

It appears there may be a conflict with the Ranwers Spitfire 1 pilot for this campaign. Delete that and it should be good to go.
