No, same thing again for me. Adding an alpha layer bumps the size up to 3162kb, but then it shows as bright pink in the QMB skin selector.

The previous 3072kb file does show up as damaged, but it acts normally in the QMB skin selector. (Allows HD, but still doesn't show 1MB skins)

Feels like I'm close. I just need to reduce the "skin1o.TGB" file to 4097kb, and ensure it has an Alpha channel. Right?

Got it! the secret is reduce skin1o file size in Paint, don't add an extra alpha layer, then rename as TGB in Irfanview.

Somehow using GIMP or Irfanview to reduce size in the same sequence doesn't work.

Thanks for the help!

it needs to be saved as uncompressed tga, which is another peculiarity of the game, yes. Seriously, Gimp is by far the most convenient tool for resizing and saving ("exporting" in Gimp) of the tga formats Il2 uses. If you use extremely simply viewers, it can happen that or another necessary feature of the file does not get processed right.

Even if you don't use it to actually paint in it, it's worth for this tool box.

Gimp might be the most convenient tool... if we know how to use it ! I have downloaded and installed it yesterday, and unfortunately, when I try to use it, I never have the good result. Even if I have renamed the tgb in tga. Personnally, I give up with Gimp. Too complicated.

Yeah, it took me awhile, but now I like GIMP quite a bit. It's my preferred software for skinning. But no harm having as many tools as are necessary to do the job, so Paint is a nice addition too. Thanks to both of you again....

Cheers
