Map of Afghanistan - 1979-89
« on: December 21, 2022, 12:32:49 AM »

I  offer the community a map of Afghanistan - 1979-89. The map was created with the support of the guys at Aviskins and based on the map of the Indo-Pakistan Frontier by Checkyersix.

You can download the map here:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/5slq21vizatlhdt/Afghanistan_1979-89.7z/file

Aerodromes are made from a list from Wikipedia, runways and taxiways by means of Il2 with the help of photos. Aerodromes are minimal, because it is assumed that the mission designers will add what they need. Cities are populated by means of an autopop.
In the package there is  a minimum of objects and all the necessary textures needed for running the version of the IL2 4.122 SAS 5.30. It was checked that missions are saved and run at that Il2 version.
 Aircraft used for verification : An-12, IL-28, Tu-16, Tu-95, MiG-17. I have not yet been able to download and run the MiG-21, Su-25, F-15.

Wait, F-15?! I'm hoping it is not just a typo :)

Congratulations on the release! :)
Great job done! ]thumleft[
Do you plan to work further on this map and are there any plans to make a real elevation of the airfields?

No, not at present. A bit tired of map making, and there is work at Transcaucasia map interrupted. Moreover, there are several very skilled map makers like vonOben who made great work on Poland 1939 map, who or anybody else can freely continue.

The engin of Il2 Sturmovik is capable to treat height from 0 to above 4500 meters, if I remember correctly. And Afganistan map covers the area from 0 to more than 6000 meters. Hence the map heights vere necessarily  shrinked. Similarly as it was done by Checkyersix. in his IndoPakistan map.

G'day dsawan

Not an object but a texture.
The one mentioned in the log file.
