Are there ways to customize the airforce lists?
« on: December 30, 2022, 03:24:32 PM »

When I make missions one of my pet peevs is having to scroll down a whole list of countries all the time to find the right air force name, like USN or USMC, when ones like that are what I primarily make missions for.

Is there a way to modify your list so the top few are the ones you use the most?

For me it would be pretty much only these:
Luftwafe
IJA
IJN
USN
USAAC/F
USMC
Vichy French

I don't think I've ever used any others.

Yes. I do this in JTW as I find it annoying to look for one country in about three or four different locations in the list, so I have rearranged mine so that, for example, I have a 'Great Britain' heading which lists RAF/RN jets and props together. Similarly I divided the USAF and USN into separate headings, again with jets and props in the same list.

A word of advice, though - do not modify the default air.ini - create an alternative in the MODS folder that you can enable via jgsme. Otherwise you can be in a right mess when updates to BAT are provided!

Sorry I have the same question.
Which file do I modify to change the airforce list?
It's not in my air.ini

Thanks

I'm not this MOD savvy to know how to do what you are saying either.

Indeed you need to modify the air.ini. As already mentioned make a backup of your air.ini store it in a safe folder and then modify your air.ini according to your needs. The plane will show in the same order of your list. If you don't want a plane to show just putt the slash in front // have a look at the air.ini of modact 5.3 as an example.

When I get a minute I'll explain the procedure.

That is exactly the reason that you should definitely switch off the mods in the JSGME folder using JSGME.exe.

A word of advice, though

Actually, for me personally I wouldn't need to do anything crazy, just put my most used airforces at the top of the list for when I'm making missions or things where I'd have to continually scroll down to select RAF or something.

If I had to redo something like that after an update I don't think it would be too terrible to change around 10 names in a file.

BUMP
Hey, what happened to this?

I just need to know what file and its location I need to edit for this?

I looked up air.ini but its just the aircraft list...  I see how I can do a simple edit of that to add a "my aircraft" section. I assume the same is possible for the countries list, though I can't find the *.ini file.

I just stumbled upon this page:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,54848.0.html

It's not exactly what you are asking for, but it shows you how to add a new air force in regiments.ini, which has to be extracted from a SFS file.
Now I haven't tried this myself, but you can probably edit the order of air forces that .ini file.

Cheers

So I've stumbled on a (partial) answer for this, which works in the QMB at least:

1. go to #SAS/STD/i18n and open "country.properties"
2. put "//" in front of each country entry you don't want to see as an option

This seems to eliminate those unwanted countries in the QMB without adverse consequences. At least so far!

Cheers
Herb

ps - Just did a test with the FMB, and unfortunately it isn't so easy in there. When you establish an aircraft track in the FMB, often (but not always) there is no "air force" option even listed. Not even the reduced list made in the "country.properties" file. Bummer.
