Yellow Wings - all USN Carrier Air Groups 1939 -1940

Yellow Wings - the (almost) definitive collection.

VB-3 ready for take off, with Commander Saratoga Air Group taking the lead.

510 individually marked skins for every aircraft of every Carrier Air Group between 1939 and 1940.

Some of you may know my preoccupation with this particular subject. But I have shifted into yet a higher gear for some time this year. The yellow is good for the soul...
So it happened I came to sit on a collection of all aircraft for all carrier air groups from late 1938, when the CAG were reconfigured, until early 1941, when the all-grey paintjobs came around.

If you want to have serious color in your IL-2, then look no further.

Pacific Fleet:
CV-2 Lexington
CV-3 Saratoga
CV-5 Yorktown
CV-6 Enterprise

Atlantic Fleet:
CV-4 Ranger
CV-7 Wasp

The air group folders contain the individual aircraft skin folders, drop them into .../PaintSchemes/skins/
There also is a .txt file for each carrier, explaining which planes where on roster at what point.

skins included for:
F3F-1
F3F-2
F4F-3
F2A
SB2C
BT-1
TBD-1
SBC-3
SBC-4
special guest: D1A2 as SBU-1

Most plane sets are valid from mid 1938, when the Carrier Air Groups where redesignated and squadrons renamed to match the CV tac numbering, until well into 1941, when the all-grey color scheme was introduced. Planes weren't all repainted overnight, so that took some time, and you had F2A Brewsters and even F4F Wildcats sporting the yellow wings.

A special case is the Vought SBU-1 Corsair. This aircraft is not available, but the biplane scout had a very long career on Ranger during the Neutrality Patrol in the Atlantic in 1940. Luckily, Chrival created a complete skinpack, using the similar looking D1A2 as a hack. I simply added them as-is.

Example.
VF-6, VB-6 and VS-6 on the tarmac.  (Back to front. VT-6 is out on patrol duty)

************
Most skins are more or less my own work, others are made with available templates or expand existing skins.

D1A2/SBU-1 hack by Chrival
SB2U based on Warthunder skin
SBC-4 Enterprise AGC by stanislao
F4F-3 based on Stretch32
F2A based on repetier71

If I missed something, let me know.

Special thanks to Maxs75 at http://ww2air.altervista.org

(and there comes VT-6...)

You could always find the templates and make them yourself  ;)
