Bristol Blenheim Mk. IV and Mk. V
« on: February 19, 2023, 01:11:55 AM »

Hi folks,

While sweeping across the Blenheims in Ultrapack, I came to think of "missing" versions, three of which I'm just curious whether we've had them implemented fully yet or not.

Blenheim Mk. IV w/ turret (early Frazer-Nash FN-45 turret version).
This one has been brought to us by Monty, but afaik the turret was just a visual thing and never worked for real in IL-2.
Does anyone know wheter a working version exists? Monty said it would be part of any future WAW version, but as much as I can see, it never made it into the official pack.

Blenheim Mk. IV w/ turret (late Frazer-Nash FN-45A remote controlled turret version).
I'm quite sure I saw this in IL-2 1946 already. HSFX? Can't really remember. Anyone else seen this before? Where can I grab it?

Blenheim Mk. V. Any trace of this beauty in IL-2 1946 yet? If so: Where can I find it?

My old Modding Partner Zip_Comic did a Frazer Nash thingy, the only one I can remember
associated.

This one was adapted for CUP by Monty, use with caution, maybe wrong version, outdated,...

Zippy made various Variants of his Mods, Gerax asked me, as his Comrade to help restore his Legacy.
Monty's anger management couldn't keep up. He went furious about Zippy. More I don't wanna say.
I know definitely that his Legacy Post is just 1/4rd of his releases, his releases changed by the number and timeline added.
He could come up with 4 Versions in a day. That was not unusual, but definitely his Mods where not to be grabbed,
somewhere in development and seen as Final.

I worked with him on the SAS Aboukirs and for the rest I did Moderational, representative stuff,
like communications. I helped him on tasks he wasn't able, while he worked. On his other Mods
I had no track, as they were not my style, but I supported him, because he helped me at 1-2 projects.

But honestly, I have no clue, which is working or not, I never used them myself. :(

I can confirm Blenheim MkI and MkIV with functional dorsal turret working in
HSFX.
The turret is not remotely operated.

Thanks for the links Tobi, that's the ones I found as well - unfortunately while they give the visual presentation of an early FN45 chin turret, neither that turret is working, nor is the dorsal one once this mod is in place.
Easy fix, nevertheless...
The late remote controlled FN45A chin turret however seems to be lost in void somehow. I'm so sure I've seen it once, back in the days... dammit.

@Kopfdorfer: Sorry for not having been clear enough on this, I was talking about the chin turret(s), not the dorsal one.

Blenheim MkIV with the 2 types of chin turrets would be excellent, as separate planes.

For now and in the meanwhile, I have the famous #WAW_Config03-Blenheim MkIV mod in my BAT-WAW (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,50264.0.html), but the dorsal turret bug is still not solved...

That's a fixed version of Zippys Nash Turret.

Zippy's is based on WTE Newy's (IVF), I know as I was Zippys Editor. I did the Presentations, Posts for him.  ;)

Mike talks about a remote controlled version.

What I can say so far is that the Zippy chin turret has never been fully implemented.
The Mk.IV posted by Monty lacks any classes and since the gun hooks changed, it effectively kills all turrets when being activated.
The Mk.IVF version posted by Monty ships with corresponding updated classfiles, however it lacks a chin turret "cockpit", hence the turret is AI controlled only, and furthermore... what's the point? This isn't a Mk.IVF anymore, it turns the Mk.IVF into the Mk.IV as it should have been.

Weird stuff.
I'll forget about the remote controlled chin turret for the moment.
Whether I pick up the Zippy glass chin turret or not is to be decided. The turret itself is too wide and the location is wrong. The real chin turret was mounted on the starboard side of the chin, not centered.
