Knochenlutsher's F4F Wildcat pack- Flight model issue?
« on: March 01, 2023, 08:01:26 PM »

I am having the greatest difficulty in non catapult take offs with the F4F-3 and -4 models from the Yorktown 1 class and CVEs. There seem inmsufficient throttle response from releasing the chocks and brakes and it drops a wing and goes straight into the water about 30 metres from the bow.  I have tried different flap setting and retracing the gear instantly I cross the deck threshold without success. Can anyone help or tell me how I might change the flight model please? Tobi's pack is otherwise a superb piece of work...

Hi Peter,

Regarding CVE ops - they can be tricky , but usually manageable for
all configurations of the F4F/FM2  - the F4Us are another story.
1) ensure the carrier is steaming into the wind and at max speed
2) ensure the wind strength is sufficient to generate some extra lift
    I recommend greater than 6mps ( 20 kmph )
3) with chocks locked in run up throttle until manifold pressure is maxed
release chocks when engines are revving max
4) I have found that flaps in TO configuration work fine , but if you are still
having trouble , try releasing chocks and gathering speed with flaps retracted ,
and notch them down to take off position just at the end of the take off run

Note that this is just general Carrier Ops advice and NOT specific to BAT which I do not have.

Good luck.

Hello Kopfdorfer and thank you for you help. It affects only the -3 and -4 models which are the culprits here. The earlier FM pack versions were fine, but the Tobi versions will not take off for me, at least. I am aware of the fun and games with the F4Us in this department and was able to master short deck take offs with the Ensign Eliminator but the Wildcats just will not build up sufficient speed to generate the right amount of lift- even from the usually adequate decks of Yorktown and Enterprise... I was wondering how others were finding things with this...The FM-1 and-2 is ok, but they have plenty of power by comparison! Thank you again for your time... :)

I had no help on FM, what I can do is roll back all FM to default (working).
Rolled back an example Slot FM2 Late, with Default FM, no problemo.

I tested now myself, honestly, let us trash that whole FM I shipped inside.
It's the best bet, a safe way to restore BAT Wildcats (if they are affected?!) and get rid of sth. buggy.
I can't deal with FM how they would need it.
As for our Beta Testing, we had literally 6 or more Versions, sadly I can't remember a thing.

My Uploads are currently rearranged, both ends. Posts and Links.
Please have a bit patience, I'm doing my best to keep track of every tiny bit.
These Wildcats I can shift to come out as first, if you wish.

Best wishes
Tobias

Hello Tobi. Thank you for your your reply. Putting the Wildcats next would be great. Your mods add so much enjoyment to Il2! :)
