I feel it every time I fly an airplane.

I wish I could add effects like this.

On the ground, it's okay if there is a shadow of the plane
Is it possible to say, "When the altitude is about 20m, the shadow on the ground disappears"?
It's strange to have a clear shadow on the ground at an altitude of 100m.

I've always been bothered by plane shadows being cast from a considerable height. I suspect this might be controlled in a .dll and hence be inaccessible to us mortals. I'll try a search through all classes, though...

The ideal treatment would be to have the shadow density decrease continuously until disappearance at some set distance.

My very first modding adventures were tweaking effects that other modders had supplied. Once I obtained the utility to extract files from the SFS files, the world was my oyster.  ;) These days things are made easier with the Selector set to 'dump mode, all necessary resources being pulled out for you. Of course, adding new stuff often requires to play with Java. But for several years I did lots of stuff that didn't involve the classes.

There's a lot a beginner can start out doing just by trying out changes on existing mods...

  • no skill just simple, but seek the best beauty !!

- Added two new [Mods] section entries for conf.ini, to control if light flak (default: off = 0) and heavy flak (default: on = 1) illumination is to be invoked.

    HeavyFlakIllumination=1

I'm looking forward to how effective this will be.

Master Glenn, thank you always...!!

Compared to early implementations of flak illumination by others, I've significantly reduced the intensity and range of the light sources. This is because previously the bursts would light up clouds to incredible brilliance and from a far distance, and also light up the ground FAR below. As a result, the small flak lighting is pretty subtle (to keep it in reasonable proportion to the heavy flak lighting) and works over a pretty limited distance. As it should.

... not sure, but I believe this has to do with LODs ...  ;)

Makes sense, as an LOD can include the shadow mesh. If missing, no shadow.

Some planes have a pretty long view distance for the nearest LOD or LODs, while others switch to coarser meshes at nearer distance. This considerable variance is another issue that would be nice to rationalize into a more uniform treatment. But there are lots of planes to go through!

Personally I manage to use (thanks to IES) the same values for the important meshes.
Unfortunately, sometimes you can't find the same values between right and left wings!  :D
Maximum values for aircraft:
[LOD]
300
600
1000
2000
3000
5000

Maximum values for vehicles:
[LOD]
200
400
600
1000

Mod released, at long last. The longest interval between version releases, and perhaps the biggest update outside of the original release itself.
